Job overview

We are looking for an enthusiastic and self-motivated pharmacy technician to join our lively, progressive and dynamic pharmacy team.  Our ideal candidate will be:
•    Interested in helping us develop and deliver our vision for a patient-focussed clinical pharmacy service
•    Able to drive divisional and departmental clinical governance issues, clinical audit, practice research, service improvement projects and more
•    Keen to further their career within cancer services 

You will be a registered pharmacy technician with a minimum of 4 years post-qualification experience in a hospital setting, including broad experience of delivering pharmacy services with a patient-focussed approach.

 Interviews will be held on 20th October 2025

Main duties of the job

The main day to day responsibilities would include:
•    Manage the day-to-day delivery of, and support the development of, clinical pharmacy services to cancer patients
•    Manage Medicine Management Technicians delivering clinical pharmacy services to cancer patients 
•    Provide safe, clinically effective and cost efficient use of medicines to cancer patients
•    Work closely with the multi-disciplinary team and undertake an active role in the safe provision of medicines to cancer patients

Knowledge & Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Registered pharmacy technician with the General Pharmaceutical Council
  • NVQ level 3 in pharmaceutical sciences or equivalent qualification plus an accredited underpinning knowledge (BTEC in Pharmaceutical Sciences)
  • Accreditation in Medicines Management qualification
  • Accredited Checking Pharmacy Technician qualification
  • NVQ A1 and V1 award
  • Demonstrate significant post qualification work in an operational management capacity
  • Demonstrates a broad knowledge of pharmacy practice
  • Demonstrable leadership ability – motivational and inspirational leadership style
  • Understanding of national pharmacy priorities
  • Demonstrates awareness of research evidence in clinical practice
Desirable criteria
  • Leadership & Management diploma
  • Research publications
  • Implements the findings of pharmacy practice research
  • Formal project management training
  • Understanding of national priorities in Cancer Care
  • Demonstrates awareness of current cancer standards such as intrathecal chemotherapy, SACT standards, NICE technology appraisals and guidance

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Demonstrable significant post-qualification experience in the NHS
  • Four years full time equivalent post qualification pharmacy practice experience
  • Two years full time equivalent post qualification work in a team leader or operational management capacity
  • Previous experience of performance management
  • Previous experience in supervising the day-to-day practice activities of others
  • Ability to work without direct supervision
  • Experience of working in specialist area in clinical technician roles
  • Experience of working in a multidisciplinary team
  • Evidence of successfully project managing a significant change in a pharmacy department
