We are looking for an experienced Senior Production Technician with these qualities, and a friendly outgoing personality, to join the production team at UCH Hospitals. In return you will gain extensive experience and training in a unit which produces doses prepared under Section 10 exemption and under a Specials Manufacturing Licence.

You will need to be a Registered Pharmacy Technician or Science Manufacturing Technician with post qualification experience in aseptic manufacture in hospital pharmacy. 

Our busy aseptic service compounds TPN for adults (8,000 pa), and neonates, dispenses chemo drugs (50,000 pa ) and IV additives ( 12,000 pa ), as well as being involved in our brand new advance therapy medicinal product(ATMPs) preparation pathways. 

Main duties of the job

To assist and deputise for the Chief Technicians in the day-to-day delivery of Production Services from UCL Hospitals in accordance with the principles of Good Manufacturing Practice and Nationally agreed standards.  To assist in the aseptic training and assessment of new Technicians and Assistants and provide a high quality, safe service to our patients.  

The role will include leading teams across our units at UCLH, training a variety of staff and being a guardian of GMP.

Person specification

Knowledge and Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Registered Technician with the GPhC or with the Science Council (RSciTech)
  • NVQ Pharmacy services Level 3 plus an accredited underpinning knowledge (BTEC in Pharmaceutical Science, Science manufacturing technician (SMT) qualification or equivalent)
  • Working knowledge of Beanie Guide and Orange Guide
Desirable criteria
  • Team Leader / management qualification
  • NVQ A1 workplace assessor award or Educational Supervisor trained, Practice Supervisor trained or working towards

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Demonstrate substantial post qualification pharmacy practice experience.
  • Previous experience of post qualification work as a team leader or operational management capacity in a hospital Pharmacy sterile/production unit.
  • Demonstrated ability of managing audit and project work
  • Demonstrated ability to write and implement SOPs
  • Demonstrated ability to clearly and accurately complete complex routine and non-routine documentation.
  • Demonstrated ability to solve problems, and identify whole team solutions.
  • Ability to work accurately under pressure and maintain quality standards.
