Speech and Language Therapist

West London NHS Trust provides a full range of mental health, community and physical healthcare services for children, adults and older people living in the London boroughs of Ealing, Hammersmith & Fulham and Hounslow.

We also provide some specialist services that are commissioned regionally, such as our medium secure services; and nationally, such as the Cassel Hospital for people with complex and severe personality disorder and our high secure services at Broadmoor Hospital.

Essential criteria

Registered RCSLT/HCPC
Educated to degree level or equivalent plus master's degree or willing to work towards
Portfolio of relevant CPD including highly specialist knowledge of Speech, Language and Communication needs (SLCN)
Evidence of leadership training and development

Desirable criteria

Teaching qualification
Post graduate training specific to this client group – Young People/Criminal Justice System/Neurodevelopmental conditions/mental health
ADOS/ADIR trained

Experience

Essential criteria

Experience of working autonomously and managing a complex caseload
Extensive experience of assessment, treatment and risk management of young people with complex needs
Experience of setting up and promoting a new clinical service within SLT
Experience of providing clinical supervision and mentoring others
Experience in developing evaluation/audit tools and demonstrating need.
Experience of effective multi-disciplinary/agency working and established interpersonal and negotiation skills

Knowledge

Mental Health Act Children’s Act
Understanding of statutory guidance affecting young people under 18 in the NHS and social care
Comprehensive knowledge and experience of legislation and guidance around safeguarding children and young people
Knowledge of Speech Language Communication Assessments and interventions relating to client group
Expertise in knowledge of working with people with SLCN and mental health diagnoses, attachment disorder, intellectual disabilities

Highly specialist knowledge of how speech, language and communication needs contribute to risk assessment and support management

As a Senior Assessor, you have the opportunity to focus on delivering direct care. Furthermore, if you have the relevant experience and skills, you can take on an additional responsibility. We limit this to one responsibility to allow for focused time on that topic, rather than having your time stretched too thinly. When taking on an additional responsibility, your case volume is reduced, making time available for this focused time.

For Senior Assessors, additional responsibility options include supporting more complex cases, ensuring quality assurance, providing training, facilitating family engagement, and contributing to pathway development.

ADOS Autism Assessor for Children and Young People, based in our Exeter clinic

Time commitment: Full-time employment is preferred, though we can also offer part-time (minimum of 3 days per week) or a self-employed role (again a minimum of 3 days per week).
