Main duties of the job

What we do – Experts in Medicines Supply and Advice

The pharmacy dispenses all outpatient prescriptions for the Trust and offer a wide range of over the counter and pharmacy only medicines for sale, along with expert professional health and wellbeing advice. We also offer a range of innovative pharmacy services including bespoke clinics for patients on chronic medicines. 

Working closely with the Trust Chief Pharmacist and the wider Senior Pharmacy Leadership team, you will be responsible for the delivery, leadership and management of the clinical, operational and financial  elements of the Outpatient Pharmacy. 

Your role – Work with real purpose

The ideal candidate will be forward thinking and high achieving and will have a real hands-on approach to the way they do things. Someone who is focused just as much on customers and patients, as well as leadership of the wider business.  You will take ownership of all aspects of the business, have a positive “can do” attitude, promote and deliver services within the team and provide a great customer experience within the pharmacy.

To ensure the safe, efficient and effective delivery of all aspects of the Outpatient pharmacy service (including the independent Pharmacist prescribing clinic) in accordance with national and local standards.

To lead on the development and implementation of the annual plan and budgeting for delivery each year.

Education / Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Registered with the General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC) Great Britain or an equivalent EU body
  • Further post graduate qualification Diploma/MSc in Pharmacy Practice or Clinical Pharmacy, or equivalent
Desirable criteria
  • Membership of the Royal Pharmaceutical Society
  • Management/Leadership qualification

Skills & Abilities

Essential criteria
  • Good written and oral communication skills. Able to communicate with patients and all grades of healthcare staff (verbally and in writing)
  • Excellent influencing and negotiation skills to manage highly complex and difficult situations within and across organisational boundaries where there is often direct conflict
  • Demonstrated ability to manage budgets
  • Computer literate and able to lead future developments in the use of Information Technology in Medicines Management
  • Ability to contribute to planning of service developments, and to manage change
  • Demonstrates a whole system patient focused approach to work.

Knowledge & Experience

Essential criteria
  • Knowledge of all legislation relating to the procurement, storage, supply, and use of medicines.
  • Expert understanding of Primary and Secondary Care prescribing issues
  • Proven track record in managing staff, time and resources to deliver timely outcomes.
  • Experience in hospital pharmacy management
  • Proven track record of maintaining good relationships with clinicians, finance and general management
  • Experience in implementing cost saving projects.
  • Experience of managing drug and staff budgets.

  • Able to work under pressure whilst maintaining accuracy and attention to detail
  • Demonstrates initiative, innovation and motivation & enthusiasm for the post.
  • Demonstrates eagerness to develop extended clinical pharmacy roles
