We are seeking to recruit an experienced CAMHS/MHST practitioners to join the Luton and Central Bedfordshire Community access service (CAS)
CAS is a number of Mental Health Support Team (MHST) established following the government Green Paper: Transforming Children & Young People’s Mental Health Provision. The service is undergoing expansion and restructuring.
Main duties of the job
The three core functions of a Mental Health Support Team (MHST) are:
- Delivering evidence-based interventions for children and young people (CYP) with mild-to-moderate mental health problems.
- Supporting the senior mental health lead in each education setting to introduce, develop and deliver the whole school/college approach.
- Giving timely advice to school and college staff, and liaising with external specialist services, to help CYP to get the right support and stay in education.
The role involves delivering all three MHST functions. The role involves providing clinical supervision and line management to practitioners within the team, holding a small caseload of clinical work (based on the postholder’s training and interests), acting as a senior link supporting school leads to develop their whole school approach to wellbeing, project work, other tasks as/when required.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
You would be joining a comprehensive and dynamic CAMH service, delivering a substantial stepped model of care following the needs-led i-Thrive framework. There area number of posts either within newly formed or established Mental health Support Teams across Luton and Central Bedfordshire. Your role will help to develop and deliver a wide range of interventions, projects and system changes with the aim of the whole school and whole community approaches to supporting young people's mental health. In addition to providing comprehensive consultation, assessment, risk management and interventions for young people experiencing emotional and mental health difficulties in schools, the post-holder will also clinically supervise colleagues. There may be an option of supervisor training at Reading University which we would strongly encourage post holders to take up.

Education, Training and Qualifications
Essential criteria
- Recognised qualification in mental health (e.g. clinical psychologist, counselling psychologist, Educational Psychologist CBT therapist.(Mental Health Nursing , Mental Health Social Worker with CBT training at experience)
- Registration with HCPC and/or profession-specific regulatory body
Knowledge
Essential criteria
- Knowledge of current guidelines and recent developments in evidence-based assessments and interventions for children and young people with mild to moderate mental health problems
- Knowledge of legislation and its implications for both clinical practice and professional management and mental health in relation to children, young people and their families
- Knowledge, understanding and experience with diverse racial, ethnic and cultural backgrounds and families with a high level of deprivation
Desirable criteria
- Knowledge of current guidelines in terms of the implementation of the whole-school approach in education
Experience & Training
Essential criteria
- Experience of working as a qualified clinician with children and young people for a minimum of two years
- Specialist skills, training and experience in cognitive behaviour therapy (CBT)
- Substantial experience of working with evidence-based approaches for mild to moderate mental health problems in children and young people
- Experience of supervising low intensity practice with CYP and families
- Experience working with schools
- PG Cert Supervision: Children and Young People’s Mental Health and Wellbeing
- Experience of supervising EMHP/CWP practitioners for 2 years
Desirable criteria
- Experience of routine outcome monitoring
- Experience working as part of an MHST
- Experience of service development
- Formal training in supervision
- Experience of line managing others
- Experience of consultation
- Experience of teaching/training other professionals

Essential criteria
- The successful candidate must be able to start in post by 1st September 2024 at the latest
