Job overview

An exciting opportunity for a motivated, values driven and passionate Nurse/AHP has arisen with the role of Nurse Consultant/AHP  in the Virtual Wards Leadership Team and to contribute fully to the professional, clinical, managerial, strategic, and governance development of the Virtual Wards. This includes the Acute Virtual Ward covering Islington and Haringey and the Islington and Haringey Community complex Virtual Wards. The Nurse Consultant /AHP  will be an experienced practitioner who is able to demonstrate an expert level of personal and professional skills blending clinical expertise with strong leadership and clinical management skills to achieve  the  deliverable  outcomes..

Main duties of the job

The post will be structured among the four pillars of advanced clinical practice:

Expert clinical practice (minimum 70%).

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

Main  Duties and Responsibilities 

  • Clinical and Professional Leadership
    Serve as an autonomous practitioner, making independent clinical decisions for patients in Virtual Wards.
    Lead and participate in multidisciplinary team meetings, ensuring comprehensive care plans and appropriate escalation paths.

  • Keep abreast of current practices and maintain a high of clinical competence in advanced practice areas
  • Quality, Clinical Governance and Risk Management
  • As part of the Senior Virtual Wards Clinical Leadership Team be responsible for the performance management of key performance indicators related to the nursing/ professional contribution to service delivery within the Virtual Wards.
  • Support the development and delivery of the Governance agenda, including clinical and non-clinical aspects of care and service delivery.
  • Ensure that areas and staff are prepared for any peer review inspections, including CQC.
  • To support the Virtual Ward leads in preparation for any external review, such as CQC and GIRFT.
  • To work closely with the Virtual Wards Service Team to implement systems to monitor clinical standards, ensuring high standards of care that are evidence-based and integral to service delivery, involving patients and others in developing and enhancing services.
  • Service Delivery and Development
  • Ensure the delivery of responsive, high-quality, value-for-money services within the clinical areas of responsibility.
  • Support the delivery of patient access standards and activity targets with the available resources

  • Business Planning and Financial Management
  • Ensure that the nursing resources are deployed efficiently and minimise spending on bank or agency staffing.
  • In conjunction with the Virtual Wards Service Managers contribute to ensuring that the Virtual Ward achieves a balanced budget
  • Support the Virtual Ward Service Leads in identifying cost savings in line with the CIP programme and implementing agreed financial recovery plans
  • Educational Responsibilities
  • Support the development and implementation of education and training programmes within the Virtual Wards for nurses and AHPs, ensuring effective use of the education commissioning system.
  • To contribute to the Training Needs Analysis for the Virtual Wards to ensure that the educational needs are met whilst achieving value for money.

    Essential criteria

    Nurse / Pharmacist / Paramedic / Physiotherapist with a valid Professional Registration
    Non-Medical Prescriber Qualification
    Evidence of continued professional development
    Leadership/management qualification (or equivalent experience
    Able to lead a service and make decisions and judgements about the best possible way forward in a complex work environment where the evidence base is evolving
    Experience working at band 8a level or above with substantial post qualification experience as Matron/Unit Manager or equivalent, managing nursing or AHP teams.
    Able to influence and work with local partners internally and externally to help develop services.

    Worked in a service where agreed targets in place demonstrating clinical outcomes.

    Experience of leading and carrying out research projects
