We answer around two million 999 calls a year and our crews attend more than 3000 emergencies a day. Our 24-hour 111 integrated urgent care services London answer around two million calls a year.

We play a leading role in integrating access to emergency and urgent care in the capital and are striving to ensure patients receive the right response, in the right place, at the right time

Our main role is to respond to emergency 999 calls, providing medical care to patients across the capital, 24-hours a day, 365 days a year. Other services we offer include providing pre-arranged patient transport and finding hospital beds. Working with the police and the fire service, we are prepared for dealing with large-scale or major incidents in the capital.

 

 

Job overview

The Project Manager is responsible for managing and delivering service-wide projects that support the Trust’s objectives, particularly in the areas of patient care and process improvement. The role sits within the NHS Resilience Emergency Capabilities Unit, which oversees national-level interoperable capabilities such as Hazardous Area Response Teams (HART), Marauding Terrorist Attack (MTA), Chemical, Biological, Radiological and Nuclear (CBRN) response, Mass Casualties (MC), and Ambulance Command & Control (C2).

Main duties of the job

  • Lead and deliver projects that enhance patient care and improve operational processes across the Trust.
  • Apply project controls using PRINCE2/AgilePM methodologies, including configuration management, quality control, change and risk management, and stakeholder communications.
  • Plan, manage, and monitor projects using advanced tools (e.g., Gantt charts, project management software).
  • Analyse complex information, solve problems, and prepare reports for senior management.
  • Ensure project outputs meet quality standards and compliance requirements.
  • Support and guide project teams, facilitate stakeholder engagement, and present complex information to diverse audiences.
  • Manage project budgets, procurement, and resources, ensuring financial accountability.
  • Maintain high standards of information management, confidentiality, and compliance with data protection.
  • Contribute to policy development and service improvement initiatives.
  • Uphold Trust values of caring, respect, and teamwork, and adhere to safeguarding, equality, health and safety, and sustainability policies.

The principal aim of the NHS Resilience Emergency Capabilities Unit (ECU) is to support the delivery of patient care and improved clinical outcomes in a range of challenging environments across England.  The unit supports NHS Trusts and partner agencies to provide an effective response to the major and complex incidents defined within the UK’s National Risk Register.

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Degree in relevant subject or equivalent level of relevant theoretical knowledge
  • Have a theoretical and practical knowledge of process improvement methodologies, Prince2 and a broad understanding of internal organisational policies and procedures
  • Have a knowledge of ‘Lean Thinking’ methodology and experience in using the relevant techniques.
  • Have knowledge of the common Microsoft Office suite of applications and preferably a working knowledge of Microsoft Project.
Desirable criteria
  • Prince2 practitioner

Experience

Essential criteria
  • The ability to communicate clearly to staff and with all levels of external business contacts.
  • The ability to treat as commercial in confidence any commercially sensitive information which is gained during the course of a project
  • Analysing non-clinical business issues that arise during projects and offer options for discussion and agreement for satisfactory resolution.
  • Interpreting events throughout the project and how these may affect the project schedule, costs and / or quality
Desirable criteria
  • Experience in Chemical, Biological, Radiological and Nuclear (CBRN) or equivalent area
  • Experience in interoperable capabilities for the Ambulance Service
