Bank Consultant Haematologist (Non-Malignant)

NHS Medical & Dental: Consultant

London North West University Healthcare NHS Trust (LNWH) is one of the largest integrated NHS Trusts in the country. Our team of more than 8,000 clinical and support staff serve a diverse population of approximately one million people providing hospital and community services to the people of Brent, Ealing, Harrow and beyond.

As well as delivering community services across four London boroughs from multiple sites we run major acute hospital services at:

  • Northwick Park Hospital: home to one of the busiest emergency departments (A&E) in the country. The hospital provides a full range of services including the country’s top-rated hyper-acute stroke unit and one of only three hyper-acute rehabilitation units in the UK
  • St Mark’s Hospital: an internationally renowned specialist centre for colorectal disease
  • Ealing Hospital: a busy district general hospital providing a range of clinical services, as well as 24/7 emergency department and urgent care centre
  • Central Middlesex Hospital: our planned care site, which also offers a range of outpatient services and urgent care centre.

We also provide specialist care at Meadow House Hospice.  We are a university teaching NHS trust, in recognition of the important role we play in training clinicians of the future and bringing the benefits of research to the public.

London North West University Healthcare NHS Trust welcomes applications from people who wish to work part time or flexibly.

The post is a new position, full-time 10 PA, in the Haematology Department of London North West Healthcare NHS Trust. The post-holder will be an integral part of the Haematology service provided to the Trust and the appointee will provide care for inpatient and outpatient non-malignant haematology patients.

The post will be based across all three sites, though on a rostered basis, with travel between sites minimised. There are weekly regional and local in-patient Haemoglobinopathy MDT’s which will be part of job planned activity.  Acute inpatient admissions are managed at both NPH and Ealing hospital sites for non malignant Haematology.

Although a Haematologist with general red cell expertise is sought, it is highly desirable and encouraged for candidates to have other sub-specialist interests, which can be developed in one or more areas.

With such large acute secondary care services, there is a good opportunity for the Thrombosis service to develop significantly with a greater uptake and engagement in many clinical trials being one of the key expectations of this recruitment exercise. Support to the Haemoglobinopathy service is a requirement of all red cell Haematologists and clinics, laboratory supervision and ward cover will be incorporated into the job plan on a rostered basis.

It is expected that the appointee’s job plan will incorporate direct clinical care and supporting activity in a ratio of 8:2. Where the appointee develops a clear leadership or management role, the SPA time and Job plan will be adjusted to accommodate that need.

Any applicant who is unable for personal reasons, to work full-time will be eligible to be considered for the post. If such a person is appointed, modification of the job content will be discussed on a personal basis with the Trust in consultation with consultant colleagues.
