Job overview

We have an exciting opportunity for a Band 6 Speech and Language Therapist vacancy to work in our Neuro Rehabilitation Teams at  Orpington Hospital. This static post offers a fantastic opportunity to work with our supportive and specialist rehabilitation teams  on the Ontario and Frank Cooksey Neuro rehabilitation units.

This is a part time position and you will be part of a team of 4 other Speech & Language Therapists and a Therapy assistant. 

Main duties of the job

The successful applicant will have experience working with adults of acquired communication and swallowing disorders and ideally experience working within neuro rehabilitation settings.

You will have an opportunity to further develop your own knowledge base and range of skills, alongside specified learning objectives and ring-fenced learning time to achieve these.

The SLT team works closely with the wider multidisciplinary teams and offers  a comprehensive supervision and CPD structure with a range of opportunities for learning and participation in both self and service development.

King’s employs 48.3 wte Speech and Language Therapists across our Denmark Hill, Princess Royal and Orpington sites. The South Sites Speech and Language Therapy Team (Princess Royal University Hospital and Orpington Hospital) has 16 wte from Band 3 to Band 8a.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

King’s College Hospital has a large Therapy department with over 400 therapists from Dietetics, Occupational Therapy, Physiotherapy and Speech & Language Therapy. Each service is organised under a Head of Profession with a Chief of Therapies heading up the service and representing Therapies across the Trust as well as externally. The department has a well-established provision of education and training, supervision and appraisal, ensuring that all staff have opportunities to develop their skills and knowledge and to reach their full potential.

Qualification & Registration

Essential criteria
  • Recognised SLT qualification
  • HCPC registered
  • Post Graduate training in Dysphagia and Communication Disorders
  • Established experience with adult acquired and neurological disorders in an acute setting
  • Up to date knowledge of the mental capacity act
  • Experience of working successfully as part of a multidisciplinary team
  • Excellent written communication skills
  • Experience of teaching others
  • Experience of projects

  • Knowledge of audit and research
