Job overview
Alan Cummings Day Surgery Unit consists of six theatres and a 30-bedded ward area, situated within the premises of Princess Royal University Hospital in Farnborough. The unit is seeking an NMC Registered Nurses to work Monday to Saturday, including night shifts.
An exciting opportunity has arisen for Band 5 nurses who is eager to develop their clinical skills in a Day Surgery setting. This position is ideal for a newly qualified nurses.
The successful candidate will work in a busy and fast-paced environment, caring for patients before and after surgery across a variety of specialities, including:
- Gynaecology
- Vascular Surgery
- General Surgery
- Breast Surgery
- Laparoscopic Procedures
- Dental
- Orthopaedics

- Pain Management

- ENT (Ear, Nose, and Throat)
Main duties of the job
- To provide expert, holistic care of a high standard to perioperative patients and their relatives within King’s College Hospital.
- To work within the multidisciplinary team to provide continuous care to a group of patients from admission to discharge within the department.
- To assist in the leadership and development of an identified group of practitioners within the department.
- To act as a clinical resource within the department and across the Care Group, as necessary.
- To act as a positive role model for junior members of staff.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
- To deliver a high standard of evidence-based care to a specified group of patients.
- To adhere to HCPC Standards of Conduct, Performance and Ethics, or the NMC Code of Professional Conduct at all times.
- To maintain confidentiality at all times.
- To support patients, relatives, carers, and friends, and where appropriate, involve them in the care of the patient.
- To be fully involved in the health education of patients and relatives, identifying opportunities to promote a healthy lifestyle.
- To liaise effectively with all members of the multidisciplinary team to ensure that relevant information regarding the patient’s needs/condition is communicated (including during handovers), and that any instructions regarding the patient’s care/condition are acted upon.
- To adhere to the Trust’s policy on valuing equality and diversity in the workplace, which applies to patients, visitors, and staff.
- To acknowledge personal limitations in your practice and seek advice from senior staff members when necessary.
- To rotate to other clinical areas within the department as required, or as identified as a personal development need during the appraisal process.
- To be involved in departmental audits.
- To report adverse incidents that occur in the department in line with policy, and assist in investigations when necessary.
- To demonstrate effective communication and customer care skills with patients and their relatives/carers, thereby acting as a positive role model.
