We answer around two million 999 calls a year and our crews attend more than 3000 emergencies a day. Our 24-hour 111 integrated urgent care services London answer around two million calls a year.

Our main role is to respond to emergency 999 calls, providing medical care to patients across the capital, 24-hours a day, 365 days a year. Other services we offer include providing pre-arranged patient transport and finding hospital beds. Working with the police and the fire service, we are prepared for dealing with large-scale or major incidents in the capital.

As a qualified AAP (Assistant Ambulance Practitioner) or EMT (Emergency Medical Technician), you will provide high‑quality emergency and urgent care, assessing and treating patients at the scene, referring them to other healthcare providers, or transporting them safely to appropriate treatment centres when necessary.
Success in this role requires strong communication skills, the ability to perform effectively under pressure, and flexibility when responding to a wide range of patient needs. You will be expected to uphold the Trust’s core values and behaviours while delivering excellent patient care.

Dockside (East London) for 3 week induction/training course
We are currently only posting to stations across North Central/North West. The Trust has a transfer register and will move staff to other stations as and when vacancies become available.
Main duties of the job

Be accountable for the assessment, treatment, diagnosis, supplying and administering of medicines, managing, discharging and referring patients in a range of urgent, emergency, critical or out of hospital settings.
Contribute to the development of an integrated approach to the delivery of unscheduled/out of hours care involving all relevant stakeholders including health and social care organisations.
Undertake the full range of duties in line with the Trust’s operational instructions.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
For the Qualified AAP role (Band 4):
- Level 3 Certificate in Emergency Response Ambulance Driving
- Fully qualified with a FutureQuals L3DAEUCS (Level 3 Diploma in Ambulance Emergency and Urgent Care Support)
For the Qualified EMT role (Band 5):
- Level 3 Certificate in Emergency Response Ambulance Driving
- Fully qualified with a FutureQuals L4DAAP / DAAPL4 (Level 4 Diploma for Associate Ambulance Practitioners)
- Evidence of additional post-qualification operational experience
In addition you must also hold qualifications listed on the relevant English & Maths Qualification, please refer to attached qualification list.
All applicants need to have a current B class driving licence, valid in the UK & hold Full C1 license status. (Allows you to drive vehicles up to 7.5 tonnes)

Clinical: As directed by 999 Operations, respond as a crew to emergency calls and convey patients to treatment centres, hospitals or emergency departments as and when appropriate. This will involve using blue light driving skills as appropriate.
Communication: Maintain regular and appropriate communications with 999 Operations regarding updates and changes to personal and/or vehicle availability and movements.
Professional and Standards: Act at all times as an ambassador for the LAS by maintaining high standards of personal conduct reflecting service values.

Essential criteria
- Must hold qualification mentioned on the advert, please see advert attachment for list of acceptable qualifications
Driving
Essential criteria
- Must hold a full licence, valid in the UK with no more than 3 points. Must hold a Full C1 category
- No previous convictions for driving under the influence of alcohol / drugs
Experience

Personal Abilities
Essential criteria
- Understanding of the nature of the work involved and the London Ambulance Service NHS Trust (LAS)
- Must be able to undertake rotating shifts covering 24 hours a day, including shift changes at short notice in line with the current arrangements
- Understand the need for service policies and procedures
