Job overview

Southwark CAMHS are seeking to recruit a Band 6 CAMHS Duty Clinician with strong clinical skills. This is a substantive, full-time post, based within the Southwark CAMHS Neurodevelopmental Service. Within the Neurodevelopmental Service, you will work alongside the full multi-disciplinary team, to support the service and ensure the delivery of high quality, evidence-based assessment and treatments. You will be responsible for ensuring full working hours coverage of all duty queries for NDS which will be through the medium of emails and telephone calls.


If you are:


•    registered with the Health & Care Professions Council as a Practitioner Psychologist 


OR


•    have an accredited professional training in nursing, social work, occupational therapy, art therapy, or further training in evidence-based psychosocial treatment for children


AND 


•    have experience of delivering mental health services to children and young people with neurodevelopmental disability in diverse community settings

Main duties of the job

·        To provide a specialist clinical role within the Southwark CAMHS Neurodevelopmental Service (NDS) which is ensuring full working hours coverage of all duty queries for NDS which will be in the form of emails and telephone calls. You will be supported in this role through close working with the Clinical Service Lead, Senior Clinical Psychologist, Senior Systemic Family Therapist, and Consultant Psychiatrist(s).

 

·        Additional tasks to ensuring full working hours coverage of all duty queries for NDS will be to take part in initiatives to help address the significant waiting lists in NDS such as “Keeping In Touch” calls.

 

·        As the Duty clinician in the team, the successful applicant will also be asked to assist in other business critical tasks as they emerge.

 

·        To contribute to assuring service quality by employing specialist knowledge and breadth of understanding of neurodevelopment and mental health theories for children and adolescents.

 

·        To maintain high standards of professional clinical practice when supporting the children and young people under the care of the service. To be a resource to the whole service in maintaining the skills of others.

 

·        To contribute to training, research, and audit as well as interpret complex data to develop understanding of self and others in relation to child and adolescent mental health disorders.

Essential criteria
  • • Registered with the HCPC as Practitioner Psychologist. OR • First level nursing qualification/registration RMN or RSCN or HV, or first level qualification in OT, social work, or equivalent with related CAMHS experience. Desirable Requirements OR • First level qualification in art, play, drama or music therapy with related experience in the psychological aspects of caring for children and adolescents with mental health problems/needs, developmental/ learning disability problems.

Experience

Essential criteria
  • • Experience of working with children and young people with mental health conditions, particularly of those young people with neurodevelopmental needs. • Experience of working with, and addressing issues of, diversity. • Experience of working in a multidisciplinary setting. • Experience of working with multidisciplinary networks in managing complex cases. • Experience of offering consultation to other colleagues and agencies.

Knowledge / Skills

Essential criteria
  • • Specialist knowledge concerning the needs of children with mental health problems and their families, particularly of those young people with neurodevelopmental needs. • Knowledge of key legislation in relation to the client group and mental health issues. • Awareness of racial and diversity issues through attendance of relevant training. • Skills in providing professional advice to practitioners and local organisations and in clinical and non-clinical report writing for multi-agency purposes. • Ability to acquire, interpret, synthesise and apply complex information from a variety of domains. • Ability to use IT/computer software and multimedia materials. • Ability to work as an independent practitioner with appropriate level of clinical and managerial supervision. • Ability to work effectively within a multi-disciplinary team, contributing to effective team functioning. • Ability to identify and employ mechanisms of clinical governance as appropriate, to support and maintain clinical practice in the face of regular exposure to highly emotive material and/or challenging behaviour.
