Key Responsibilities:

Dispensary: Accurately prepare and dispense medications, ensuring correct dosages and instructions while adhering to strict safety protocols.

Pharmacy Stores: Manage pharmaceutical stock, including ordering, storing, and distributing medicines, ensuring optimal stock levels and preventing waste.

Wards: Collaborate with clinical teams to ensure medications are prescribed and administered effectively, providing expert advice on medication management in multidisciplinary meetings.
Newly qualified technicians will be placed on a 4-5 progression post, with rotations across dispensary, stores, and wards. This will give you hands-on experience and a well-rounded understanding of hospital pharmacy.

Main duties of the job
As a Senior Pharmacy Technician, you will work closely with the operational team within dispensary and stores, the clinical ward pharmacy team and the wider MDT, as well as supporting with the development of pharmacy technicians and trainees.
Roles and responsibilities include (but not limited to):
· Undertake projects - support the Site Lead Pharmacy Technician and Lead Pharmacy Technicians in developing systems for service provision, which enhance the efficiency of the service
· Be responsible for providing a Medicines Management service to ward areas, which involves working unsupervised in clinical areas
· Day to day line management of pharmacy support workers undertaking QCF / NVQ level 2 and 3 and ACPT
· Undertake duties and responsibilities as an Accuracy Checking Pharmacy Technician (ACPT) including supporting with dispensing and stores processes
· Participate in the recruitment and selection of Pharmacy staff.

Qualifications
Essential criteria
- Level 3 Diploma in Principles and Practice for Pharmacy Technicians or equivalent
- Registered as a Pharmacy Technician with the General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC)
- Accuracy Checking Pharmacy Technician (ACPT) qualification
- HEE LaSE Medicines Optimisation qualification or equivalent
Desirable criteria
- Practice Supervisor, Train the trainer or equivalent qualification
- ILM Level 3 Leadership and Management qualification or equivalent
- Member of the Association of Pharmacy Technicians UK (APTUK)

- Medicines management experience in a ward-based setting, e.g., medication history taking, POD assessment etc.
- Dispensing
- Patient counselling experience
Desirable criteria
- Experience of managing of staff
- Education & training of staff
- Experience of working in a medicines management role
Knowledge
Essential criteria
- Understanding of GPhC revalidation requirements
- Up to date knowledge of legislation relevant to pharmacy practice, e.g., controlled drugs, Health and Safety at Work
- Knowledge of Safe and Secure Handling of Medicines requirements
- Understanding of the importance of adherence to SOPs and
- Knowledge of drugs, side effects and where to find further information
- Knowledge of medicines management systems at ward level
- Demonstrates a good understanding of patient safety initiatives

- DBS - Enhanced check with a check of the barred lists required as patient facing and may interact with adults / children
Desirable criteria
