Applications are invited from enthusiastic, motivated and conscientious individuals with excellent interpersonal skills for this interesting and busy post.This post is a perfect opportunity to kick start your career towards becoming a medical secretary. Support and training will be offered. 

The post holder will be responsible for providing administrative and clerical support to the Patient Pathway Coordinators, Patient Pathway Manager and clinical teams within the department. In addition they will be expected to be able to provide scheduling support, including the booking of outpatient activity and waiting list management. Once training has been undertaken the post holder will be supported to audio type dictated clinic letters. 

Duties will include: booking appointments, dealing with patient queries, recording and validating activity on PAS systems, and liaising with internal stakeholders.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will provide a flexible administrative support service across the department as required by workload demands and agree priorities in liaison with the Patient Pathway Manager/Patient Pathway Co-ordinator. It is essential that the post holder has good communication skills, is organised and assertive in dealing with patients, carers and health professionals. The post holder must maintain a high degree of confidentiality in all aspects of service delivery and patient information in accordance with Trust policies and procedures and compliance with the Data Protection Act. The post holder must also have good data input and general keyboard/word processing skills.

Our patients are benefitting from our Women’s Health Hub in Ilford; an Ageing Well Centre in Hornchurch; and Community Diagnostic Centres (CDC) at Barking Community Hospital and at St George’s Health and Wellbeing Hub in Hornchurch. 
 
These CDCs are open 12 hours a day, 7 days a week and are providing an extra 94,000 scans a year. 
 
The majority of our 8,000 staff – who come from 146 different countries - live in the three diverse London boroughs we serve and are from black, Asian and minority ethnic groups. Many can work flexibly and more than 400 of them are on our Ofsted accredited apprenticeship programmes. We’re proud to be a London Living Wage employer.

  • Educated to GCSE level with a minimum of a C in english

Experience/ Knowledge

  • Excellent computer skills, competent with microsoft office applications
  • Experience working in a similar role offering administrative support in a hospital setting.

  • Audio typing qualification/experience.
  • Understanding of medical terminology
  • Knowledge of patient referral to treatment times; experience of monitoring patient pathways
