Consultant Geriatrician with an interest in Movement Disorders
YM72
PEOPLE are at the HEART of everything we do
This video gives a flavour of what it is like to work at our Trust and why some of our staff love working here 💙
Job overview
This is a rare and exciting opportunity for a Consultant Geriatrician with an interest in Movement Disorders to join our team at BHRUT. This post combines leading frailty care with involvement in our renowned Neurosciences Movement Disorders Unit, which provides advanced therapies including Deep Brain Stimulation (DBS) and botulinum toxin services.
You’ll play a key role in developing integrated frailty pathways across our Acute Geriatrics wards and Ageing Well Centre, while also contributing to specialist clinics and multidisciplinary team (MDT) discussions within our movement disorders service.
Main duties of the job
• Provide Consultant-level care on an acute geriatric ward at Queen’s or King George Hospital.
• Deliver community-based CGA and urgent assessment clinics at the Ageing Well Centre.
• Support frailty initiatives including the Frailty Virtual Ward and Frailty Line.
• Participate in movement disorder clinics, advanced therapy MDTs, DBS and botulinum toxin clinics (tailored to your experience).
• Supervise and support trainees across geriatrics and allied specialties.
• Engage in service innovation, audit, and teaching.
Working for our organisation
We’re an organisation that is getting better and better and our improvements are driven by a determination to deliver care we’re proud of and our patients are happy with. We’re no longer in special measures; we’ve opened two new theatres at our Elective Surgical Hub in King George Hospital (KGH); and, in recognition of our progress, we’ve been shortlisted for Trust of the Year at the Health Service Journal Awards.
We operate from two main sites – KGH in Goodmayes and Queen’s Hospital in Romford. We have two busy emergency departments with more than 330,000 people visiting them last year. We’re campaigning to secure the £35m we need to transform the A&E at Queen’s and get rid of corridor care.
Our patients are benefitting from our Women’s Health Hub in Ilford; an Ageing Well Centre in Hornchurch; and Community Diagnostic Centres (CDC) at Barking Community Hospital and at St George’s Health and Wellbeing Hub.
These CDCs are open 12 hours a day, 7 days a week and are providing an extra 94,000 scans a year.
The majority of our 8,000 staff – who come from 146 different countries - live in the three diverse London boroughs we serve and are from black, Asian and minority ethnic groups. Many can work flexibly and more than 400 of them are on our Ofsted accredited apprenticeship programmes. We’re proud to be a London Living Wage employer.
We’re looking forward to introducing an electronic patient record that will be transformative for our staff and beneficial for our patients.
Home to one of London’s most advanced movement disorder units, offering DBS and complex Parkinson’s therapies.
Investing in integrated frailty care, with our new Ageing Well Centre providing hospital, community, primary and voluntary services under one roof.
Proud of our diverse 8,000-strong workforce, our PRIDE values, and our status as a top-performing Trust for improvement.
You’ll join a collaborative team of 30+ geriatricians and a wider neuroscience department committed to innovation and high-quality patient care.
