Job overview
An exciting opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic and highly motivated registered nurse to join our vascular service as a trainee advanced nurse practitioner. this developmental role is ideal for an experienced surgical nurse with a background in vascular nursing at band 6/7 who wishes to advance their practice and become an expert practitioner in vascular care. the successful candidate will work alongside an established vascular MDT supporting the assessment and co-ordination of patients from outlying wards and King George hospital. The candidate must be flexible around working across site. The post holder will commence in post as a band 7 and will be expected to undertake the advanced nurse practitioner course with some self-directed learning, and the security of the post will be dependent upon successful completion of the units. This is a minimum of a 2 year course including the nurse prescribing unit. Mentorship will be provided by the surgical ANPs.
Main duties of the job
Continually evaluate, reflect upon and audit own practice at individual and systems level, selecting and applying valid and reliable approaches and methods which are appropriate to needs and context, and acting on the findings.
Actively seek and participate in peer review of own practice and participate in planned reviews of training and practice with assigned clinical mentor.
Continually assess and monitor risk in own and others’ practice and challenge others about wider risk factors.
Use professional judgement in managing complex and unpredictable care events and capture the learning from these experiences to improve patient care and service delivery.
Working for our organisation
We’re an organisation that is getting better and better and our improvements are driven by a determination to deliver care we’re proud of and our patients are happy with.
They are benefitting from a new electronic patient record (we were the last acute trust in London to introduce one) and our maternity services have been rated good by the Care Quality Commission.
We operate from two main sites – KGH in Goodmayes and Queen’s Hospital in Romford. We have two busy emergency departments with more than 346,000 people visiting them last year. We’re campaigning to secure the £35m we need to transform the A&E at Queen’s and get rid of corridor care.
We’re proud of our regional Neurosciences Centre, Radiotherapy Centre and Hyper Acute Stroke Unit. We’re also part of the North East London Cancer Alliance.
We run a Women’s Health Hub in Ilford; an Ageing Well Centre in Hornchurch; and Community Diagnostic Centres (CDC) at Barking Community Hospital and at St George’s Health and Wellbeing Hub. These CDCs are open 12 hours a day, 7 days a week.
The majority of our 8,400 staff – who come from 146 different countries - live in the three diverse London boroughs we serve and are from black, Asian and minority ethnic groups. Many can work flexibly and more than 400 of them are on our Ofsted accredited apprenticeship programmes. We’re proud to be a London Living Wage employer.
