We also provide some specialist services that are commissioned regionally, such as our medium secure services; and nationally, such as the Cassel Hospital for people with complex and severe personality disorder and our high secure services at Broadmoor Hospital.
Job overview
We are looking for an enthusiastic technician to join a friendly, progressive clinical team, serving our high secure services at West London NHS Trust. The trust provides services across a large geographical area and includes a wide range of mental health and community health services. Our 800 in-patient beds provide services from open wards through to high security forensic services and intermediate care beds. We provide a secondary, tertiary and national service. We provide services to children, adolescents, adults and older people both in the community as inpatients. Our Trust has just achieved a 'Good' CQC rating.
The post will be based at St Bernards Hospital, but there is a requirement to provide medicines management service provision on other sites within the Trust
The successful candidate should be a highly motivated individual team player with good communication skills and a keen interest in mental health. The applicant should be able to work well both in a team and autonomously.
There is a requirement that the applicant at the time of submitting an application is registered with the General Pharmaceutical Council.
Main duties of the job
For 37.5 hrs per week the post holder will be providing a clinical pharmacy service to a number of wards within High Secure services based at Broadmoor Hospital. There will be an opportunity to attend MDT meetings, clinical governance meetings and other relevant meetings pertaining to provision of pharmaceutical care to our patients.
There will be at times a need to support our MMT led dispensary

Essential criteria
- Registered Pharmacy Technician with the GPhC
- NVQ level 3 Diploma in Pharmacy Service Skills (QCF) and relevant underpinning knowledge in Pharmaceutical Science or equivalent
- ACPT or recognised accredited pharmacy technician checking qualification
- Mandatory professional CPD as defined by the GPhC
Desirable criteria
- A1 NVQ Assessor
- LPE&T pharmacy technician self-development scheme stage 2 or equivalent
- Smoking Cessation Level 2 advisor
- A qualified Medicines Optimisation Pharmacy Technician (or working towards)
Experience & Knowledge
Essential criteria
- Post qualification experience of working in a UK hospital; this must include a solid grounding in all aspects of hospital pharmacy
- Experience of pharmacy computer systems
- Experience of audit
- Knowledge of good dispensing/distribution/manufacturing/ practice
- Good literacy and numeric skills
- Basic computer skills
Desirable criteria
- Experience of JAC pharmacy system
- Experience of managing change
- Experience of working with clinical trials
- Experience of supervising and training staff
