Job overview

We would like to hear from you if you are an enthusiastic and self-motivated individual who would like to progress their career within a finance environment.

Reporting to and assisting the Finance Business partner in the provision of annual divisional budgets, monthly financial management reports as well as looking after cost centres in a clinical area. You will also work closely with colleagues in HR, Commissioning, Operational managers/budget holders, Information and other stake holders on issues that impact on expenditure.

Applicants should be in the first stages of your CCAB qualification, preferable with NHS experience. You should have excellent technical and interpersonal skills especially Microsoft Excel with proven ability to analyse complex data and transform into meaningful reports. You must also have an eye for detail and be able to prioritise and manage workload to deadlines. 

 

Main duties of the job

Maintain a high standard of financial work when carrying out month end and BAU duties. Develop a close working relationship with the Finance Business Partner and ensure that they are fully briefed on all finance issues in the division. To aid in the provision of robust monthly budgetary reports including cost centre reports to the divisions budget holders within agreed timescales. This will include making all necessary accruals, prepayments, budgetary changes and other financial adjustments as instructed by the Finance Business Partner. To assist in the production of a monthly performance pack for the divisional meeting, including narrative reports explaining key issues and reasons for budgetary variances, a forecast out-turn, temporary staffing expenditure analysis and CIPs progress. Perform any other duties as required by the Finance Business Partner. Ensure compliance with our financial governance framework, you will motivate colleagues and drive continuous improvement.

Knowledge, Training & Experience

Essential criteria
  • Able to apply accounting theory into practice when considering how to portray divisional transactions in the financial ledger
  • 3 years’ experience within the finance function of an organisation with a turnover of >£10m p.a.
Desirable criteria
  • 1 years Management Accounting experience within the NHS
  • Exposure to working with managers outside finance
  • Costing services provided to external purchasers

Analytical & Judgment Skills

Essential criteria
  • Undertake analyses of large volumes of complex financial data
  • Able to interpret and apply accounting guidelines to divisional financial transactions

IT skills

Essential criteria
  • Intermediate spreadsheet skills Intermediate word processing skills
Desirable criteria
  • VBA basic/intermediate
  • Knowledge of database applications (e.g. Access, Business Objects)
