Job overview

We have vacancies at our Kent and Medway Adolescent Hospital based in Staplehurst, Kent for B6 Clinicians to work within our inpatient unit.

We are looking for clinicians from a wide range of backgrounds applying for this role, especially RMNs,  The focus of the role is on risk assessment and management in a hospital setting and involves interfacing with other agencies and contributing to the therapeutic timetable.

There is the option to work exclusively days or nights. Flexible working options can be discussed with the right candidate at interview and appointment.

We are able to offer post graduate training in mental health or therapies and also career progression through management. There is the option to experience working within other services as part of your initial two years including All Age Eating Disorders and the Crisis Response and Enhances Support Teams.

Applicants must have a professional registration such as nursing, occupational therapy or social work to be shortlisted for this role

As well as a comprehensive induction period to support the successful person in gaining the skills for the role, we can also offer extensive training opportunities and development within the pathway to include crisis assessment and intensive home treatment depending on your future aspirations.

Main duties of the job

The team operate 24/7 and shifts can be worked over the following shifts:

  • x 3 or x 4 Long Days a week
  • x 5 Early or Lates a week
  • x 3 or x 4 Nights a week

The role involves supporting young people who have been admitted engage in treatment around managing their mental health and risk. The average length of stay for young people is around 6-8 weeks during which time the young person and their family are offered treatment to support safe discharge back to the community. Young people admitted to the unit may engage in behaviours often associated with mental distress such as self-harm, agitation, suicidal thoughts and intrusive thoughts.

The post would suit someone who has an interest and/or experience in supporting young people with mental health needs. The right candidate will be able to work well under pressure and in the face of emotional situations and be confident in making decisions in the best interests of children, young people and their families.

This post will be subject to a probationary period. Internal applicants are exempt from the probationary period (unless you are an internal applicant currently part way through a probationary period)

This post has been identified by NELFT as being eligible for a welcome payment subject to the terms set out within the NELFT Recruitment Policy. This post also attracts a  payment equivalent to 10% of your annual basic salary, (pro-rata) which will be paid in 2 payments.

Working together with the provider collaborative, local commissioners, and in-line with national drivers, we deliver high quality care in hospital and at home, to provide what young people need, at the right time, and in the right place.

You will be supported by a dedicated and supportive leadership team and have the opportunity to participate in research, clinical modelling, and service development. You will also work collaboratively with the young people and their families and carers, other NELFT professionals, KCC, schools and other partner agencies to deliver outstanding care.
