Senior Clinical Nurse Specialist And Project Lead

NHS AfC: Band 8a

Job overview

An opportunity has arisen in the Breast unit in Sutton leading a project to optimise our 62 day pathway.  The Royal Marsden is a tertiary referral centre taking referrals via multiple routes. With a variation in the pathways from initiation of endocrine therapy, surgery and referrals to medical oncology to start chemotherapy we wish to explore and optimise the pathways.

The clinical project leader will be an integral part of the patient pathway working in clinics liaising with patients, staff and various hospital departments. They will be a point of contact and meet the patient at multiple time points from diagnosis until the date of their first treatment. Data collection will include patient demographics to allow analysis of underserved groups as a sub cohort. For this sub cohort there will be a focus on qualitative data to steer recommendations with a view to reduce health inequalities in the Breast Diagnostic pathway. We will use mixed method data collection for current patients to broaden insights into the pathway capturing quantitative and qualitative data.

Main duties of the job

  • Provide professional, clinical leadership and expertise in the case of the patients on the 62-day cancer pathway and to be a resource and contact to patients, on a 62-day pathway.

  • Advise Lead CNS and Lead Nurse on matters pertaining to the provision of optimising the breast 62-day pathway.
  • Lead and formulate relevant policies for the Trust and submit them through the committee.
  • Liaise effectively with members of the multi-disciplinary health care team so as to achieve a co-ordinated specialist service across the Trust as per the aims of the project.
