Job overview

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a clinical pharmacy technician with a desire to work within haemato-oncology in one of Europe’s largest centres for treating blood cancers. 
Haemato-oncology is a complex and exciting discipline within pharmacy, with a multidisciplinary and innovative approach to patient care and delivery of services. It is an area of unprecedented growth in new medicines and exciting new technologies. Our pharmacy team is well respected both within the Trust and nationally for their expertise within haematology and cancer services, and we are looking for an enthusiastic pharmacy technician with a growing passion in haemato-oncology to further enhance the team. 

Main duties of the job

We are looking for a keen and dedicated individual, focussed on providing the best possible patient care and experience. This role will provide a brilliant opportunity to work as an integral part of the Haemato-Oncology Clinical Pharmacy Team to help us deliver expert clinical care to our haematology patients and uphold our departmental vision, which is “To provide pioneering and compassionate medicines optimisation services".

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

  • To provide on-site comprehensive pharmaceutical care, contributing to the multidisciplinary team for the Haemato-Oncology unit.
  • To attend all relevant events such as Registrar/Consultant rounds/unit meetings as appropriate.
  • Provide a clinical pharmacy service to the haematology day unit and outpatient area.
  • Support the medical and nursing teams though provision of pharmacy review and medicines management support to ensure the safe and timely delivery of Haemato-Oncology services
  • As a pioneering role within the pharmacy department, this post holder will be expected to be heavily involved in the set-up, optimisation and continued oversight of a pharmacy technician education pathway for verification of SACT.
  • To participate in all department rotas, as required. Pharmacy is in a transitional period and moving over to a 7-day service, therefore any successful candidate would be required to participate in a 7 day service which includes requirement to work weekends, late shifts and bank holidays.

Education & Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • GPhC registered Pharmacy technician
  • Diploma in Clinical Pharmacy or BTEC Level 4 Professional Diploma in Clinical Pharmacy Services or equivalent.
  • Practice Educator or educational Supervisor training or equivalent
Desirable criteria
  • a.) Accredited Checking Pharmacy Technician accreditation

Experience

Essential criteria
  • At least 2 years Hospital Pharmacy experience in an NHS or equivalent setting providing a clinical pharmacy service
  • Experience of delivering clinical pharmacy services to a broad range of specialities.
  • Audit, project management or research experience
  • Experience in Haemato-Oncology practice
  • Experience working with Bone Marrow Transplant services
  • Experience of training staff
Desirable criteria
  • Experience in Oncology Pharmacy practice
  • Demonstrated skills/knowledge for preparing injections & working in an aseptic environment
