Job overview

Come join our team in Children and Young Peoples’ Daycare and Outpatients Department. Our busy CYP Daycare and Outpatients sees over 6000 thousand patients a year, requiring systemic anti-cancer therapy, radiotherapy and supportive care, delivered by our team. The age range of our patients is 1 to 24 year old, making CYPDU a unique unit at the Royal Marsden Hospital.

The Children and Young People's day unit is looking to recruit a motivated and enthusiastic Housekeeper to join our team. This is a part time position to help support the department with housekeeping duties.  The post holder will be required to work from Monday to Friday (No weekends, no bank holiday).

We are looking for a person who is keen to work with our team, who has good communication skills and organisation skills to ensure the smooth running of the Unit. The post holder will work as an integral part of the team to continue to uphold the high standards on the Unit.  

Main duties of the job

The Ward Housekeeper will work as an integral part of the ward team. The postholder will be responsible for the co-ordination of all patient facilities/services in the ward area and for ensuring a clean, safe and comfortable environment. The main elements of this role are ensuring the delivery of cleaning, catering and minor maintenance, together with other specified tasks to meet individual patient needs, as determined by the ward sister/charge nurse. The postholder will be required to work closely with contractors and support services departments. He/she will monitor quality standards and rectify deficiencies.

  • To receive, welcome and guide visitors on arrival to the ward, liaising with other staff as appropriate.
  • To maintain and update paper-based records and information as required, e.g. menus, requisition books.
  • To respond to requests for general information.
  • To receive and pass on information to others, maintaining confidentiality.
  • To handle complaints and take appropriate action.
  • To assist with training of staff involved with ward housekeeping services, ensuring required  standards are achieved.

Education

Essential criteria
  • Ability to attain Food Hygiene qualification
  • Basic literacy and numeracy skills
Desirable criteria
  • Recognised Food Hygiene certificate
  • Basic keyboard/PC skills

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Experience of working as part of a team
  • Experience of working under minimal supervision
Desirable criteria
  • Experience of working in a hospital environment
