Job overview

The post holder is managed by the Mortuary Manager and Deputy Mortuary Manager and is expected to take an active part in all technical procedures by assisting the pathologists at autopsy examinations and organ dissection sessions. The post holder must play an active role in providing a high-quality Mortuary service, thus meeting the requirements of the Trust, relevant legislation, HM Coroners and the local Borough Councils.

 

Main duties of the job

The post holder is expected to support both junior and senior staff, work as part of a team on a rotational basis within all specialities of Mortuary and be able to assist in specialist post-mortems, including paediatrics, forensic, research and high-risk cases. The post holder will be involved in the training and supervision of trainee APTs and inductions to the mortuary for junior doctors. The post holder must play an active role in providing a high-quality Mortuary service, thus meeting the requirements of the Trust, relevant legislation, HM Coroners and the local Borough Councils. St George’s has a large and busy mortuary setting with a high work load. The post holder will be required to work well independently and in a team.

As a Senior Specialist Anatomical Pathology Technologist (APT), the candidate must hold the Certificate & Diploma of Anatomical Pathology Technology or the Level 3 Diploma in Anatomical Pathology technology with relevant, extensive and demonstrable experience. As a Specialist Senior APT in the Mortuary the post holder is expected to take an active part in all technical procedures by assisting the pathologists at autopsy examinations and organ dissection sessions.
