South West London Pathology is an award winning pathology partnership between three leading Hospital Trusts – St George’s University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, Kingston Hospital NHS Foundation Trust and Croydon Health Services NHS Trust – designed to provide an integrated, high quality pathology service for hospitals and GPs across South West London, by bringing together the best of each Trust’s service and providing them within a single organisation.

The Role

We are looking to employ several staff into posts that are predominantly NIGHT SHIFT - there will be 3 nights shifts from 8:30pm to 7:30am and one day shift 8:30am to 5:00pm (+/- 30mins at each end of the day shift).

Microbiology at SWLP is looking for Biomedical Scientists with all levels of experience to join our dynamic team as Specialist Biomedical Scientists (Band 6) and Biomedical Scientists (band 5).  You will be deployed in Bacteriology and / or Virology depending on experience and participate in rotation between the two departments including sessions in the newly created covid testing laboratories.  The department offers the latest equipment in the Microbiology field with two Kiestra lines, MALDI-ToF technology, Uri-system, Liaison XLs and new state of the art molecular diagnostic instruments.

Serology is a fully integrated tracked solution. The department also offers an extensive screening program for latent TB for the London region. The laboratory prides itself on its innovative and progressive approach to Microbiology. In addition, it offers a unique working relationship with the medical school creating a number of opportunities in research and development.

The successful candidate will be expected to have good knowledge and experience in sub-disciplines of Microbiology to be eligible for both band 5 and 6 positions.  The predominantly NIGHT SHIFT posts include weekend, night, late and bank holiday working as part of core hours.
