Senior Midwife in Antenatal Clinic
Band 7
Job overview
Band 7 Senior Midwife - Antenatal Clinic
We are looking for an experienced, highly motivated, senior midwife who is highly knowledgeable in antenatal care and pathways, will provide support and leadership to all colleagues, work closely with the wider multidisciplinary team, and demonstrate clinical expertise throughout all aspects of this integral role.
You will be responsible for ensuring women are placed at the centre of their care, optimising the personalisation of the clinical pathways for all. You will be supported by and work closely with the wider teams to oversee and coordinate the daily operation aspects of the antenatal clinic, managing all grades of midwifery and support staff including student midwives and newly qualified/registered midwives.
Main duties of the job
The successful candidate must be an excellent communicator with proven experience in working in an outpatient clinic setting within a maternity service. You will lead with audits and roster management, continually review staffing levels/skill mix in accordance with the changing needs of the service, mentor new band 5 midwives who join your team and work with the Matron to meet KPI’s and plan the day-to-day service. It is essential that you bring a flexible and adaptable approach to meet with the challenge of this role, supporting the multi-professional team in personalising care, enhancing quality and improving the patient experience. In addition, you will lead on several exciting Quality Improvement (QI) projects in your department with the support of the QI team and an allocated QI band 6 midwife. Alongside this, you will lead on introducing continuity of care within the clinic environment and be a lead for this important service change.
The person appointed to this role will have a clear understanding of how this post contributes to the achievement of the Trust vision which is one of:
A thriving Foundation Trust at the heart of an integrated healthcare system. One that delivers improved patient care at a community, hospital and specialist setting, supported by a unique and nationally recognized programme of research, education and employee engagement.
Working for our organisation
St George’s, Epsom and St Helier University Hospitals and Health Group cares for a population of four million people in South West London and North East Surrey. Our sites include St George’s Hospital, one of 11 major trauma centres in the UK and the largest healthcare provider and major teaching hospital in the area; St Helier Hospital, home to the South West Thames Renal and Transplantation Unit and Queen Mary's Hospital for Children; and Epsom Hospital, home to the South West London Elective Orthopaedic Centre (SWLEOC).
After years of collaboration, our two Trusts became a hospitals group in 2021. While remaining as two separate Trusts, being a hospitals group will help us to collaborate more closely on research, and the development, education, and training of our 17,000-strong workforce.
