Person specification
Education/Qualifications
Essential criteria
- Recognised qualification demonstrating ability to instruct, direct or guide exercise prescription and progression (e.g Sports science, Fitness instructor level 2 /personal trainer level 3)
Desirable criteria
- Registration with relevant registered body e. g CISMPA /ACSM ECDL
- First Aid
- NVQ 3 or Foundation degree
Experience
Essential criteria
- Experience of independently managing patients with a range of musculoskeletal conditions safely whilst ensuring appropriate communication with referring clinician and patient.
- Leading and supporting the delivery of exercise classes safely and effectively with experience of ongoing risk assessment/management.
- Assessing patients for equipment i.e. walking aid and instruct them in proper and safe usage
Desirable criteria
- Experience of teaching and supervising others
- Working in a diverse community.
Skills/ Abilities/ attributes
Essential criteria
- Able to follow instructions and recognise boundaries of own scope of practice, seeking assistance as appropriate from therapists.
- Excellent interpersonal skills including good written and verbal communication.
- Able to carry out moderate physical effort throughout the working day and teach practical skills to patients
- Ability to reflect and use initiative in addressing own learning needs and appraise own performance.
- Ability to manage own time and own caseload with willingness to work flexibly and be self motivated.
Desirable criteria
- Good IT skills and ability to use electronic documentation systems.
Knowledge
Essential criteria
- Basic knowledge of health care delivery
- Basic knowledge of common musculoskeletal conditions and postsurgical management.
- Knowledge of the role of the physiotherapist and occupational therapist
- Knowledge and experience of a range of manual handling techniques.
- Knowledge of anatomy including main muscle and joints.
- Knowledge of health and safety policies
Desirable criteria
- Basic understanding of commonly used therapy and medical terms
- Basic understanding of proper and safe use of wheelchairs
Other
Essential criteria
- Physically fit and able to comply with Trust Manual Handling Guidelines
- Professional demeanour and behaviour reflective of trust values.
Applicant requirements
You must have appropriate UK professional registration.
The postholder will have access to vulnerable people in the course of their normal duties and as such this post is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 (Exceptions) Order 1975 (Amendment) (England and Wales) Order 2020 and as such it will be necessary for a submission for Disclosure to be made to the Disclosure and Barring Service to check for any previous criminal convictions.
