Lead Sonographer for Women's Health

Band 8a

Job overview

Lead Sonographer for Women’s Health – Band 8A

We are looking for an experienced, highly motivated, dynamic Sonography leader who is ready to clinically lead our obstetric ultrasound team and provide a high level of technical expertise across a comprehensive range of examinations. You will be an experienced specialist diagnostic sonographer and have the drive to supervise, train and lead the highly skilled team of sonographers, trainee sonographers, clinical fellows and midwives.

Main duties of the job

The successful candidate will be an excellent communicator with proven experience in working within obstetric ultrasound. It is essential that you bring a flexible and adaptable approach to meet with the challenge of this role, supporting the multi-professional team in personalising care, enhancing quality and improving the patient experience. As a Lead Sonographer you will review, influence and lead the development and implementation of policies and audits, organise learning and teaching of the multi-disciplinary team and ensure the key performance indicators are achieved and reported to NHS England.

Working for our organisation

St George’s, Epsom and St Helier University Hospitals and Health Group cares for a population of four million people in South West London and North East Surrey. Our sites include St George’s Hospital, one of 11 major trauma centres in the UK and the largest healthcare provider and major teaching hospital in the area; St Helier Hospital, home to the South West Thames Renal and Transplantation Unit and Queen Mary's Hospital for Children; and Epsom Hospital, home to the South West London Elective Orthopaedic Centre (SWLEOC).

After years of collaboration, our two Trusts became a hospitals group in 2021. While remaining as two separate Trusts, being a hospitals group will help us to collaborate more closely on research, and the development, education, and training of our 17,000-strong workforce.

At gesh we are committed to supporting flexible working arrangements. Applicants are encouraged to discuss any flexibility they may need during the recruitment process.
