Lead Nurse TB

Band 8a

Job overview

An opportunity has arisen to lead the TB services at St Georges Hospital you will work in partnership with the nurse clinical lead to support in the daily running of the TB service with a focus on operational and people management.  You will work as part of a multi-professional team to ensure that patients with TB receive a high standard of care from initial investigations to treatment completion. Whilst TB patients will be the focus of the role you will also work to develop patient pathways for our complex non-tuberculous mycobacterium patients. The role is integral to the prevention, detection of TB in Southwest London. 

 

Main duties of the job

The main duties of the job are to manage the TB service supporting the TB Clinical Nurse Specialists and Outreach Worker to provide high quality care for patients at all stages of their TB journey, you will identify service development needs, support in education and awareness raising on TB in the trust and in the community and you will contribute to service development through audit and contribute to education and awareness raising activities

Professional/ Clinical Qualifications and Experienc

Essential criteria
  • Degree in nursing.
  • MSC in advanced nursing practice or equivalent experience
  • Recognised TB specialist course.
  • Experience of leadership role. Management qualification or equivalent experience.
  • Clinical reasoning and physical assessment
  • Teaching/Mentoring
  • Competent and able unsupervised to undertake specific procedures and tasks relevant to specialist area of practice.
Desirable criteria
  • Non-medical prescribing course or working towards.
  • Professional leadership skills including leadership development programme
  • Knowledge of HIV disease.
  • Formal qualification in health promotion

Specialist Knowledge and Skills

Essential criteria
  • Competent and able unsupervised to undertake specific procedures and tasks relevant to specialist area of practice.
  • in ordering X-Rays, scans and blood tests relevant to specialist area of practice. IRMER trained
  • Experience in working with vulnerable groups e.g. refugees and asylum seekers, homeless people, the elderly and families with young children.
  • Significant experience of working in a community setting/ public health role/ paediatrics / adults / home visiting.

  • Research qualification. Published material
  • Excellent computer skills
