Job overview

Please note: this vacancy may close earlier than advertised once a suitable number of applications have been received.

We are seeking two enthusiastic and committed graduates to join our Trust as a Band 5 Gastroenterology Assistant Psychologist. You will be involved in a range of activities, primarily conducting assessments, brief interventions, and providing support for patients admitted to the hospital wards with alcohol-related problems, also data collection and analysis.

The role of Gastroenterology Assistant Psychologist has been established within the Trust for over four years and has resulted in a reduction in readmissions and alcohol consumption for patients with alcohol related admissions. The service has been dormant for over six months due to COVID and the career progression of the former post holders. The new appointees will reinvigorate and re-establish the service with guidance from the Consultant Gastroenterologist and Hepatologist.

You will be working alongside a busy multi-disciplinary team and will be accountable to a Consultant Gastroenterologist and receive remote clinical supervision from a Clinical Psychologist.

The post will be based on the sites of the Hillingdon Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, predominantly Hillingdon site and CNWL sites predominantly Addiction Recovery Community Hillingdon (ARCH), Uxbridge. The post will be for 9 months and extendable subject to individual review.

Interview date to be confirmed.

Main duties of the job

  • To promote and coordinate a seamless pathway of care for patients with alcohol-related admissions from diagnosis and identification through to treatment and outpatient management.
  • Practice autonomously and be self-directed, with appropriate supervision.
  • To participate in clinical governance and utilise research skills for audit, service development and research within the area served.
  • Draw on a diverse range of knowledge in their decision making to determine evidence based therapeutic interventions.

Working for our organisation

The Hillingdon Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust is the only acute hospital in the London Borough of Hillingdon and offers a wide range of services, including accident and emergency, inpatient care, day surgery, outpatient clinics, and maternity services. The Trust’s services at Mount Vernon Hospital include routine day surgery, delivered at a modern treatment centre, a minor injuries unit, and outpatient clinics.

The safety and well-being of our patients and staff is paramount and we are making urgent improvements to address this – particularly in infection prevention and control. We are making progress by working in partnership with local GPs, charities, community services, academic partners, our local authority, neighbouring hospitals, and the wider North West London Integrated care system, and ensuring that we listen and work in partnership with our local population. We are focused on ensuring that our hospitals provide high quality, safe, and compassionate care, while we drive forward with the building of the new Hillingdon Hospital.

We have over 3,500 members of staff that are proud to care for nearly half a million people, with a vision to be an outstanding provider of healthcare through leading health and academic partnerships, transforming services, to provide the best care where needed.
