Job overview
An exciting opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic, hardworking, and patient-focused Band 6 Radiographer to join our friendly X-Ray Department. This post would suit general Radiographers who have been qualified for around 18 months and would relish an opportunity to develop their career and train in cross-sectional radiography.
The X-Ray Department is committed to developing its staff members and we positively encourage and support extended roles and postgraduate training. We currently have Radiographers undertaking Postgraduate Certificates in Ultrasound, a Radiographer led HSG and PICC Line Insertion Service, and others providing musco-skeletal reporting services.
The X-Ray Department is based across our two sites at Hillingdon Hospital and Mount Vernon Hospital.
An interview date is yet to be confirmed.
Main duties of the job
- To act in a supervisory role and to advise and assist junior staff (or other nominated staff) in the performance of their duties. Perform formal assessment for radiographic students and assistant practitioners and to aid student education including practical demonstrations and tutorials.
- To deputise for Modality Lead Radiographer when necessary.
- To manage the workload in the area in which you are working to ensure a steady flow of patients and regular breaks for staff. To be fully competent in the operation of all appropriate imaging equipment along with additional equipment such as suction/oxygen.
- To be able to work unaided in the department, teach others to use the equipment and use advance technical knowledge to give advice or solve problems when necessary. Use knowledge and skill to adapt your radiographic technique for complicated cases.
- To monitor the standard of radiography in the area in which you are working and to take remedial action if necessary.
- To deal with, report and keep records of equipment failures where appropriate and to assist in equipment selection. Keep up to date by pursuing continuous professional development to maintain one’s own education and development in line with CoR guidelines. To undertake additional training in order to permit the implementation of service development.
Working for our organisation
The Hillingdon Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust is the only acute hospital in the London Borough of Hillingdon and offers a wide range of services, including accident and emergency, inpatient care, day surgery, outpatient clinics, and maternity services. The safety and well-being of our patients and staff is paramount and we are making urgent improvements to address this – particularly in infection prevention and control. We are making progress by working in partnership with local GPs, charities, community services, academic partners, our local authority, neighbouring hospitals, and the wider North West London Integrated care system, and ensuring that we listen and work in partnership with our local population. We are focused on ensuring that our hospitals provide high quality, safe, and compassionate care, while we drive forward with the building of the new Hillingdon Hospital.
