Help lead innovation from state-of-the-art facilities
At Waltham Forest, we’re modernising the mortuary that serves the Eastern Coronial jurisdiction of London. It’s a £multi-million project, which will see our old mortuary demolished and replaced by a new, state-of-the-art facility, including a digital autopsy suite. We now need a qualified Pathologist to support the important work of the Senior Coroner across a number of London boroughs. We’re the first London authority to directly employ our own Pathologist, which means you’ll be helping us blaze a trail.
Your main task will be to provide the highest standard of Pathology services alongside a dedicated team. You’ll be working in a brand new mortuary, where they’ll be the capacity for non-evasive, digital post mortems as well as traditional methods. You’ll perform these examinations to a high technical level, working in collaboration with the Senior Coroner, Area Coroner, mortuary technicians and GPs. When you’re finished, you’ll describe your findings in well written reports. You will be reporting to the Director of Governance and Law. The mortuary is busy, but you will receive support along the way.
Clearly, you’ll need to embrace modern working practices and technological innovation. But just as importantly, you must be flexible when it comes to working across the coronial jurisdiction. Although most port mortems will take place in Waltham Forest, you may occasionally be expected to assist neighbouring boroughs.
A qualified Histopathologist on the GMC register, you’ll have experience performing a range of coronial post mortems. If you’re UK-trained, you must hold a Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT) or be soon to receive this. Non-UK trained Pathologists must have qualifications equivalent to the UK CCT FRCPath.
We welcome part-time applicants and we can offer flexible hours, opportunity for two weeks of continuous professional development and a generous pension.
You will also be joining the National Local Authority of the Year awarded by the Municipal Journal Awards.
