Job overview

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a proactive and skilled Resuscitation Officer to join our small and friendly team. This Band 6 role requires a practitioner who can work with a high degree of autonomy, delivering specialist resuscitation training and contributing to service development, audit, and quality improvement.

Moorfields Eye Hospital is preparing for a major transition, with a planned move to a new state-of-the-art facility in the King’s Cross area in 2027. As a result, there is significant transformation and project work underway across the organisation.

The successful candidate will play an active role in this transition, contributing to the development and implementation of new systems and processes. This will include supporting the establishment and embedding of the 2222 emergency response team within the new environment, ensuring safe, effective, and responsive resuscitation services are maintained throughout the transition and beyond.

Communication is a key component of this role, particularly within a single specialty hospital where exposure to resuscitation events may be limited. The post holder will be expected to effectively engage, educate, and influence staff at all levels promoting, awareness, confidence, and competence in resuscitation practice. Strong interpersonal skills are essential to embed best practice and foster a culture of safety.

 

Main duties of the job

Clinical Expertise & Specialist Knowledge
•    Demonstrate specialist knowledge in resuscitation practice, aligned with Resuscitation Council UK, NICE and skills for health guidelines.
•    Provide expert advice and support to clinical teams.
•    Maintain clinical credibility in emergency response situations.

Education, Training & Communication
•    Plan, deliver, and evaluate resuscitation training (e.g. BLS, PBLS, ILS and PILS)
•    Communicate complex information clearly to a wide range of staff groups.
•    Promote awareness and understanding of resuscitation procedures. 

Professional Responsibilities
•    Maintain up-to-date knowledge of resuscitation practice, national guidance, and relevant professional regulatory requirements (e.g. NMC, GMC, HCPC)
•    Actively seek opportunities to develop and improve the resuscitation service, ensuring all practice is delivered in line with Moorfields Eye Hospital policies and procedures.
•    Demonstrate professional leadership behaviours to enhance and promote high standards within the resuscitation service.
•    Act as a positive role model, maintaining and promoting excellence across all levels of the multidisciplinary team.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

Team Working
•    Act as a role model for high standards in patient safety and resuscitation care.
•    Influence and support multidisciplinary teams.

Leadership
•    Act as an active member of the Trust’s Resuscitation Committee, contributing to service development and strategic direction.
•    Coordinate the day-to-day delivery of the resuscitation service within designated areas of responsibility.
•    Act as a change agent, promoting best practice and continuous improvement.
•    Demonstrate initiative and creativity in developing resuscitation education programmes.
•    Ensure effective and efficient use of resources without compromising patient care.
•    Develop and maintain links with the Resuscitation Council (UK)
•    Support the Trust in maintaining its status as a licensed Resuscitation Council (UK) training centre.

Service Improvement & Clinical Governance
•    Participate in audit and reporting.
•    Support incident investigation and organisational learning.
•    Contribute to ongoing development of resuscitation services.

Autonomy & Decision-Making
•    Work independently to manage workload and priorities.
•    Use initiative and sound judgement in training and operational delivery.
•    Escalate risks appropriately within governance frameworks.

Additional Requirements

Qualifications and Professional Registration

Essential criteria
  • Registered Nurse/ODP/Paramedic
  • BLS/PBLS instructor
Desirable criteria
  • ALS/EPALS provider
  • ILS/PILS provider
  • ILS/PILS instructor/or instructor potential
  • Teaching and assessing qualification or equivalent.

Knowledge and Experience

Essential criteria
  • Demonstrates sound knowledge of current national resuscitation guidelines.
  • Evidence of on-going professional development
Desirable criteria
  • Experience of developing and managing new projects.

Skills and Abilities

Essential criteria
  • Excellent communication skills; able to work collaboratively with all other disciplines; effective verbal, written and interpersonal skills.
  • Excellent organisation skills; willingness to work across all sites in the organisation.
