Perinatal Mental Health Maternity Support Worker
Band 3
Job overview
Perinatal Mental Health Maternity Support Worker - 37.5 hours - Fixed term funding until March 2027
This is an exciting opportunity for a band 3 Maternity Support Worker to join our maternity unit, working within the Perinatal Mental Health midwifery team. The role involves providing care and support during pregnancy and the immediate postnatal period for those requiring additional mental health input and support. In this role you will work closely with service users and their families, as well as alongside multidisciplinary teams and external partner agencies to deliver holistic, person-centred care.
This is a fantastic opportunity for an experienced and enthusiastic support worker to join our team to provide compassionate, personalised, and safe care - making a real difference to experience and outcomes.
This role requires someone who is able to use their initiative, adapt to changing needs and demands, and who demonstrate reliability and professionalism. You will work under the guidance and direct/indirect supervision of Registered Health Professionals and must therefore be a motivated individual who can work independently as well as collaboratively within a team. It is essential that you can demonstrate excellent communication skills, an understanding of perinatal mental health, safeguarding, and confidentiality. A flexible and compassionate approach is key to success in this role.
Main duties of the job
The successful candidate will support the specialist perinatal mental health midwife with the perinatal mental health service. You will be exposed to families in the perinatal period who have existing or new mental health illnesses and will support them through their pregnancy and in their transition to parenthood. You will work across the multidisciplinary team and have a good understanding of perinatal mental health and knowledge of safeguarding. The role will require you to be flexible, working in a variety of settings both within the home and clinical environment. You will need to effectively organise your own diary and be able to prioritise your workload appropriately.
You will be based at Tameside General Hospital, and work across various settings including Family Hubs within Tameside. Tameside council was one of the 75 local authorities to implement the Family Hubs and Best Start for Life Programme in the years 2022-25. The programme includes new investment for essential services in the crucial Start for Life period from conception to age two, and services which support parents to care for and interact with their children.
