Are you looking to start or continue an exciting and rewarding career in NHS finance?

To provide support to the Financial Management function in providing a full range of accounting services including budgeting and budgetary control, to meet the monthly Trust and external NHS reporting requirements in line with pre-determined timetables. In addition to this the post holder is responsible for a range of management accounting services within the Financial Management function.

To assist the Management Accounts team to provide financial support to the various directorates, ensuring full compliance with best financial practice specifically in relation to:
• Budget setting
• Financial budget reporting
• Forecasting of expenditure and income/activity
• Costing
• Delivery of Trust Efficiency Programme (TEP)
• Business case development
• Line Management duties.

To support in communicating financial information to non-financial managers in a manner that is clear and effective, to support them in effective decision making.

Who are we looking for?

Somebody with the desire to support the Financial Management function as an Management Accounts Assistant, who knows they are ready to deliver in an exciting but challenging role. 

You'll need to be studying towards your AAT qualification or equivalent, with the initiative, drive and commitment to work in a complex and changing environment and the drive to deliver quality improvements.

The post holder must be self-motivated and possess an analytical mind-set complemented by good communication skills and a collaborative approach. This is an outstanding opportunity to work closely with clinical staff and other budget holders to assist in delivering financial analysis, and ensure delegated budgets are effectively managed.

You'll have the opportunity to work with a breadth of stakeholders with competing requirements and develop the discipline to deliver to strict timetables.

Person specification

Education and Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • 5 GCSE’s grade C/4 or above including Maths & English or equivalent
  • Evidence of continued professional and personal development
  • Studying towards NVQ Level 3 in AAT - intermediate / technician level or equivalent experience with a desire to study/ continue studying towards a professional accounting qualification

Skills and Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Literate in modern IT software
  • Excellent IT technical skills especially in relation to manipulating large amounts of data
  • Able to deduce key points from large/complex volumes of numerical and other data
  • Thorough understanding of accounting principles and practice
  • Ability to manage workload efficiently, prioritise and work to strict deadlines
  • Excellent communication skills both written and verbal
  • Effective interpersonal and influencing skills
Desirable criteria
  • Ability to interpret and apply relevant DH / Monitor guidance to financial transactions
  • Ability to identify and exploit the potential for improved financial systems
  • Knowledge of NHS financial accounting systems and practices

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Experience of providing financial advice and support to clinical/nonclinical managers and budget holders, ensuring key financial concepts and issues are clearly understood.
  • Experience of working with large complicated sets of data and being able to interpret clear and logical analysis
  • Experience within a Finance Department
  • Experience of working effectively and efficiently in a fast changing environment
Desirable criteria
  • Experience within an NHS Finance Department
  • Experience with a Finance ledger system
