Employer heading
GP Mental Health Practitioner
NHS AfC: Band 7
Job overview
Many GP practices are now offering support from a wide range of health professionals, such as Clinical Pharmacists, MSK Practitioners and Paramedics to manage increasing demands of the local population and to provide a multi-disciplinary workforce to deliver the right care, at the right time, within local communities.
The development of Mental Health Practitioners within GP practices enables expert advice to be given for common mental health problems, freeing up GP appointments for more complex physical or mental health appointments.
Mental Health Practitioners working in GP Practices across Bolton are expected to offer first, and where necessary, second contacts for patients where they will promote and implement early intervention, avoiding unnecessary medication, referrals and hospital admissions, supporting
patients to self-care, whenever possible.
Main duties of the job
To provide first, and if required, second contacts for those experiencing common mental health problems, to reduce the need for GP appointments, within an identified number of surgeries.
