Job overview
The Trust is seeking a Specialist Grade liaison psychiatrist with particular expertise and interest in mental health liaison to join the Liaison Team. The vacancy has arisen as a result of the current post holder moving to another post, and the Trust regards this as an opportune moment to develop the functioning of the team. The service covers Liaison Psychiatry into all wards and A+E at the Royal Bolton Hospital
Main duties of the job
· To provide medical leadership in Liaison Psychiatry to the Mental Health Liaison team.
· As a medical expert, to be able to take a lead on service development for all adults with mental illnesses within the Royal Bolton Hospital. This will necessitate excellent influence and joint working skills.
· To provide first line generic assessments to any patient referred to the service. All members of the team will be able to provide these assessments.
· To provide medical support and supervision to the Liaison team, completing second line specialist assessment and medical treatment where appropriate, supported by the other Liaison consultant and Specialty Doctor
· To contribute to the development of the service in conjunction with other Team members.
· To supervise junior doctors acting within the Liaison team
· To participate in audit, service development and evaluation in collaboration with the Bolton Governance Team, and the Trust’s Research and Development Team.
· To participate in and organize teaching within the Royal Bolton Hospital

Person specification
Experience
Essential criteria
- 12 years’ experience as a doctor in total and 6 years’ experience working with psychiatry (5)
Qualifications
Essential criteria
- MB BS or equivalent medical qualification
- Fully registered with the GMC with a license to practice at the time of appointment
- Approved under S12 OR able to achieve with 3 months of appointment
- Registered for CPD with the Royal College of Psychiatrists
Skills
Essential criteria
- Excellent clinical skills using bio-psycho- social perspective and wide medical knowledge
