Job overview

An exciting opportunity has arisen in our TB Nursing Team. We are looking for full time/ 12 month fixed term Band 6 TB Nurse Specialist.

The position is open to anyone meeting the criteria, and secondment opportunities will be considered.

We are a small team of TB nurses covering the TB services at North Manchester, Oldham, Rochdale and Bury localities, and the position holder will have the opportunity to work across all sites.

The post is based within the Infectious Disease Department at North Manchester General Hospital, and the team deliver care both virtually and face to face, in clinics and in patients own homes. We support adults, children and families with active and latent TB.

We  cover a 5 day week, and offer flexible opportunities over the 5 days to encourage a good work life balance.

We are looking for a flexible, dynamic person to support the team in delivering excellent care to a varied, often complex, patient group.

Main duties of the job

Using your clinical experience and skills you will be responsible for the assessment, planning, delivery and evaluation of programmers of care, responsibility for a designated workload and demonstrate clinical reasoning skills in the management of patients with active TB, latent TB and suspected TB

You will provide support for patients and family on TB treatment by undertaking home visits, telephone interviews and assessment in clinical areas, this will include actively participating in outpatient clinics, whilst respecting their need for privacy and dignity.

You will undertake nursing interventions, including, Mantoux skin testing, consistent with evidence based practice, transferring and applying knowledge and skills to meet patients’ needs

You will plan the management and organisation of work, as required, ensuring effective communication is maintained at all times.

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Registered Nurse with current NMC registration (part 1 adult/General Level 1 or 2)

Knowledge, Skills, Training and Experience

Essential criteria
  • Evidence of professional and clinical expertise acquired through continuous professional development
  • Post registration experience at degree level or working towards
  • Effective communicator with good leadership and interpersonal skills
  • Excellent organisational skills
  • Ability to work independently
Desirable criteria
  • TB and/or Infectious Diseases experience
  • Independent Nurse prescriber
