Clinical Nurse Specialist in Acute Oncology

Job overview

An exciting opportunity for a full time, permanent Band 7 Macmillan Acute Oncology Clinical Nurse Specialist , has arisen within the team that cover the Oxford Road and North Manchester General Hospital sites. 

The post holder will play a key role in the Acute Oncology Team & in the delivery of acute oncology services throughout the Trust in patient services and through out-patient clinics. The post holder will provide early input of specialist care to oncology patients.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will give advice and implement patient care in an area which requires specific clinical knowledge, skills and experience. The post holder will work alongside other clinical colleagues in oncology, palliative care, ED, acute medicine, radiology and pathology to ensure quality of care to the patients is maximised. This will include the development of clinical guidelines & education programmes.

The post holder will be expected to cross cover and work between the Oxford Road Campus (ORC) and North Manchester General Hospital (NMGH) sites.

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Current NMC Registration
  • Evidence of completion of relevant post graduate courses appropriate to the clinical area
  • Evidence of Masters level study or willingness to work towards with organisational support
  • Advanced Communication Skills training or willingness to undertake
  • Psychological Level 2 training or willingness to undertake
  • Recognised teaching qualification or willingness to work towards with organisational support
Desirable criteria
  • Leadership/Management Qualification or willingness to work towards with organisational support
  • Clinical Examination Skills level 7 or willingness to work towards with organisational support
  • Non-Medical prescribing or willingness to work towards with organisational support

Knowledge and Skills

Essential criteria
  • In depth expert knowledge appropriate to speciality
  • Ability to work autonomously and as part of an effective MDT
  • Ability to plan, organise, prioritise and delegate effectively and support staff
  • Exemplar effective verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to interpret data and utilise to improve practice
  • Working knowledge of the National and Local NHS Cancer Policy
  • Computer literacy skills
  • Clear understanding of key stakeholders relevant to cancer services
  • Ability to effectively communicate with the Senior Leadership Team

  • Relevant post registration experience within cancer/palliative care/speciality
