Specialist Weight Management Dietitian – Children and Adults

Job overview

We have an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic, self-motivated dietitian to join our specialist weight management service in Trafford. We are a friendly, motivated and dynamic multi-disciplinary team, making a positive difference to the lives of adults and children every day. 

The adult service is a Tier 3 Specialist Weight Management MDT that includes nurse therapists, physiotherapist and dietitians.  The team delivers lifestyle programmes for weight management including group education sessions, disordered eating pathway and bariatric surgery education. We are committed to providing a service that is compassionate and mindfulness forms an important part of our approach.

The Children and Young People’s Weight Management Service supports children, young people and their families to become a healthier weight. Although useful, previous paediatric experience is not essential.  We work closely with the wider MDT supporting a family and training other staff is also a key role for the service.

We value CPD and you will be supported to develop your skills and knowledge in this exciting specialism at the heart of key priorities for public health and the NHS.

Programmes are mainly clinic based with some group delivery and home visits.  Virtual and face to face contacts are offered to clients and to improve access, we offer some out of hour sessions. 

 A current UK valid driving license and access to a car are essential. 

Main duties of the job

Manage a caseload of clients who may be complex and have multiple needs including medical, psychological and social.

Plan, deliver, evaluate and modify specialist programmes of care for clients with multiple needs, providing advice to clients and carers in conjunction with the multi-disciplinary team and other agencies involved.

Use advanced communication skills to address clients’ complex needs and support behaviour change.

Use facilitation skills to deliver a programme of group education sessions with clients.

Develop specialist programmes of care in lead area supported by Senior Practitioner and using current best practice, patient feedback and innovation.

Plan, deliver and evaluate formal and informal training within specialism to other relevant health care professionals and staff.

Support the development of a culture of accountability and governance at all levels.

Travel to a variety of venues across Trafford, carrying equipment when need.

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Degree/MSc/Diploma in Nutrition and Dietetics
  • HCPC Registration
  • Evidence of post graduate study relevant to specialism
Desirable criteria
  • Training completed for student supervision
  • Evidence of professional networking in area of specialisation

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Appropriate relevant post grad experience in relevant specialism
  • Evidence of working with clients with specialist needs
  • Evidence of working with people with multiple needs
Desirable criteria
  • Evidence of working in a multi-disciplinary team
  • Supervision of junior staff/students
  • Clinical audit and standard setting

Knowledge and Skills

Essential criteria
  • Knowledge of current best practice in within chosen specialism including NICE guidance
  • Good clinical knowledge base
  • communication skills to address physical/psychological and socioeconomic needs
  • Able to use motivational interviewing
  • Able to facilitate group education sessions and challenge inappropriate comments/behaviour of participants
  • Demonstrate ability to manage time effectively
  • Ability to undertake appropriate dietetic assessments that include assessment of eating behaviour and mental wellbeing
  • Able to use clinical reasoning to formulate treatment plans
  • Knowledge of issues relating to Clinical Governance Knowledge and application
  • Commitment to patient centred non-discriminatory practice
  • Reflect and critically appraise one’s own performance

Work Related Circumstances

Essential criteria
  • Current UK Valid Driving License and access to a car
  • Led by service need, work outside of core hours as needed
