Job overview

An exciting opportunity has arisen within the Endoscopy Unit at Trafford general Hospital for an Endoscopy Sister/Charge Nurse secondment for 12months.  You should be a dynamic and experienced senior nurse with specific knowledge and skills of working in Endoscopy.

Endoscopic procedures will be carried out by Endoscopists who are adequately trained and deemed competent to the recommended standard approved by JAG and BSG National Guidelines for Practice.

Main duties of the job

As a Sister/Charge Nurse you will be responsible for co-ordinating on a day to day basis, assist in complex endoscopy procedures, planning, problem solving, using electronic rostering and staff allocations.  As an expert in endoscopy you will be able to disseminate your knowledge and skills to the wider endoscopy workforce helping to maintain high standards of nursing care for our patients.  Applications are invited from motivated and innovative nurses keen to be part of the development of our Endoscopy service.

Our procedures are varied and diverse and include diagnostics, therapeutics and surveillance, gastroscopy, flexible sigmoidoscopy, colonoscopy, PEG insertion,  Bronchoscopy and EBUS,  delivering high quality care to our patients.   We also host the NHS Bowel Cancer Screening Programme and run the TNE service, so there is a real range of specialisms to develop your skills and experience. 

We are currently running a seven day unit., allowing flexibility for both our patients and staff.

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Registered Nurse Diploma/Degree
  • Evidence of relevant post qualification study
  • Special interest in teaching & training others
  • Mentor qualification
Desirable criteria
  • Recognized Management Certificate (LEAD)
  • Endoscopy Post Registration Study
  • GIN/JET Facilitator

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Endoscopy experience at Band 5 or above.
  • Ability to motivate others in the team and demonstrate personal initiative.
  • Teaching in a clinical environment
  • Experience of preparing for JAG/GRS
Desirable criteria
  • Experience gained through previous employment or training
  • Working with multidisciplinary students
