This role is the opportunity to become part of an experienced and ambitious Consultant body within a major NHS teaching organisation. The Ageing & Complex Care directorate is committed to constantly developing, improving, and innovating our services around the needs of our older population. We welcome individuals who want to shape the future of Geriatric Medicine, develop their specialist interests, and contribute to delivering exceptional patient care.
Interviews are planned to take place at Wythenshawe Hospital on the 2nd December 2026. Specific details will be confirmed with shortlisted candidates.
Main duties of the job
Our Ageing & Complex Care directorate consists of 3 primary departments: Elderly (Geriatric) Medicine, Stroke Medicine, and Palliative Care. The role will work primarily within these services, which includes a complex ward work and front-door frailty services. In addition to this, there will be an opportunity for the successful applicant to be job planned for their sub-specialist interest for the development of themselves and the service.
The successful candidate will also be expected to support the Medical on-call consultant rota, which involves a combination of evening, overnight and weekend cover (1 in 24 weekdays and 1 in 8 weekends, with 1 Bank Holiday per calendar year).

Essential criteria
- Medical Degree
- Full registration and licence to practice with the General Medical Council (GMC)
- Membership of Royal College of Physicians (MRCP) UK or equivalent
- Within 6 months of receiving CCST in Geriatric Medicine / Acute Internal Medicine / General Internal Medicine
Desirable criteria
- Postgraduate qualification or additional certification relevant to speciality
- Member of the British Geriatrics Society
Domestic / Physical
Essential criteria
- Resident within a reasonable travel time to the hospital or equivalent access

- Ability to work in a multidisciplinary team
- Enquiring, critical approach to problems
- Good interpersonal skills

- Ability to communicate effectively with patients, relatives, GPs, nurses and other agencies
