Are you a skilled band 6 looking for a challenge in a new area or even a compassionate Band 5 looking to expand your knowledge and skills and feel ready for a new and engaging leadership challenge? 

We are looking for an efficient, enthusiastic, highly motivated nurse with excellent interpersonal, communication skills  with  a keen interest in lung cancer to work in our 16 bed Pulmonary Oncology Unit (POU)

You will be joining our friendly and dynamic multi-disciplinary team with excellent standards and great work ethic. You will be supported to develop as a band 6 sister/charge nurse through leadership training and mentoring. 

We care primarily for lung cancer patients as well as general respiratory patients. You can expect training in leadership and management, governance and quality improvement as well as clinical skills such as management of complex palliative care and symptom control. We have an extensive MDT who we work with collaboratively to provide excellent holistic and patient centred care that you would be at the forefront of delivering.

Main duties of the job

You will need to be:

Dedicated, motivated and skilled and take pride in providing exceptional patient care

Have a passions for lung cancer care and respiratory nursing

Have the potential for leadership skills and possess mentorship skills and knowledge

Possess strong communication and interpersonal skills and work well within a MDT as well as individually

Have good time keeping and organisational skills

Have some knowledge or experience in audits and IQP change projects and recognise the need for improvement works but training will be given

Familiar with Health Roster and NHSP as well as the new HIVE system

Skilled at day to day shift coordinating, supporting and mentoring junior staff and escalating changing in patients needs accordingly and communicating in the MDT daily board rounds. 

Full training and support will be given to help you progress your skills at band 6 and for you to complete the band 6 competency framework.

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Registered nurse with relevant experience
  • Evidence of post qualification study/CPD
  • GCSE English or equivalent
Desirable criteria
  • Mentor/Assessor and familiar with the PARE student system
  • Previous experience with Audits and IQP

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Leading/Coordinating a team
  • Evidence of understanding the role of band 6 and how they support a Ward Manager
  • Awareness of Auditing and IQP

  • Experience of working within other areas of nursing
