CURE Specialist Nurse (Tobacco Dependency Team)

Job overview
The CURE Project is a comprehensive Tobacco Dependency Treatment/Support Programme for all patients that smoke and are seen by the Lung Cancer Screening Truck in an outpatient setting or admitted to hospital across Greater Manchester.
CURE is recognised nationally as best practice (referenced in the NHS Long Term Plan and the National Respiratory & Lung Cancer GIRFT reports) with MFT clinicians being instrumental in its developments to date.
The Programme is inspired by the Ottawa Model for Smoking Cessation, which is a validated and cost-effective secondary care smoking cessation model originating in Canada.
Data from Canada demonstrated that comprehensive secondary care treatment programme for tobacco dependency deliver immediate and highly significant reductions in admission rates and mortality.

Main duties of the job
We require an enthusiastic, compassionate and self-motivated nurse, who has an interest and awareness of tobacco dependency and smoking related conditions.
The successful candidates will have excellent communication skills and the ability to motivate others. They will be able to work autonomously, and link in with other healthcare teams and professionals.
The post consists of dedicated time to clinical practice, assessing inpatients and outpatients providing behavioral support and treatments for tobacco dependency, liaising with outpatient services, health promotion and education, as well as providing advice/teaching to multidisciplinary teams across the Trust.
The candidate should be flexible and able to travel across MFT sites and Lung Cancer Screening Trucks across greater Manchester when required.

- Evidence of working independently

Qualifications

- Registered Nurse
- Educated to degree level or relevant experience
- Evidence of relevant post qualification study at postgraduate level or equivalent knowledge
Desirable criteria
- Non medical prescribing
- Teaching experience or mentorship qualification
