Job overview
The Paediatric Neurology Department is a centre of excellence and a tertiary referral centre for the North West of England. Outreach clinics are held in the local district hospitals throughout the region. Inpatients are admitted to Royal Manchester Children’s Hospital. The department has close links with child psychiatry, psychology, neurosurgery, metabolic medicine, clinical genetics and paediatric intensive care.
Main duties of the job
This post will provide excellent opportunities for gaining experience in the management of children and young people with complex epilepsy, neurological disorders and neurodisabilities under close supervision of the team of Paediatric Neurologists.
This post would be ideally suited to an individual who is post CCT in Paediatrics (or equivalent Specialist training) and who is wishing to develop skills in assessment and management of a wide range of neurological conditions. This post will enhance practical skills in paediatric neurology and allow the candidate to gain excellent experience in long-term management of patients with neurological disorders.
The successful candidate will be expected to work within the team coordinating patient care and facilitating discharge. Daily ward rounds are held for all neurology patients. Referrals are also received from other specialities within the hospital. The candidate will gain excellent exposure to a wide range of clinics under close consultant supervision.

Qualifications and Training
Essential criteria
- MBBS or equivalent primary medical qualification
- Full MRCPCH or equivalent
Desirable criteria
- Research degree
- CCT gained or pending within 6 months, or eligibility for equivalent route to Specialist Register
Clinical Experience
Essential criteria
- Considerable experience in paediatrics at speciality registrar level
- Demonstratable previous experience of paediatric neurology within a paediatric neurology unit
- Neonatal intensive care paediatrics experience Community Paediatrics (developmental paediatrics and child protection) experience
- Acute emergency paediatrics experience
- Experience of resuscitation of infants and children
Desirable criteria
- Completion of post-graduate paediatric training
Research and audit

- Interest in research
