Job overview

We are seeking an enthusiastic and well-motivated person to work as an Occupational Therapist in our well established and supportive team. The team consists of 17 staff members who have a variety of specialities.  We are a city-wide service providing support to young people aged 0-18 years. We have two bases - Baguley and Gorton.

Whilst previous experience in paediatrics would be a bonus, it isn’t essential; this is an excellent opportunity for you to develop your skills. You will enjoy assessing and treating a varied caseload in a wide range of community settings such as schools, nurseries, clinics and home environments.  You will be expected to manage your own caseload and will be provided with training and supervision to enable this. Casework will include using a variety of standardised and observational assessment and intervention with opportunities to use our sensory equipment.

We provide you with regular clinical supervision, protected time for CPD opportunities and support from an experienced team. Staff members are encouraged to attend post graduate training.  We also offer a comprehensive induction programme, 1-1’s and annual appraisals to develop knowledge and skills. We aim to ensure every member of the team is fulfilled in their role and there will be opportunities to work on service development projects.

Car owner/driver is essential and a valid work permit is essential.

Main duties of the job

  • To carry out the Occupational Therapy intervention for children/young people with a variety of clinical needs; with an appropriate level of guidance and within agreed parameters of practice.
  • To ensure a high standard of care for each child, working with all disciplines and agencies involved with the family.  To communicate with these agencies, parents and children in an appropriate manner, often with sensitive information regarding diagnosis and outcomes.
  • To undertake training to learn the skills specific to children and young people’s Occupational Therapy
  • To provide an Occupational Therapy service to children; developing effective treatment plans ensuring their implementation to reduce the impact of disability to the child’s daily life.
  • To manage a clinical caseload working independently with supervision to a high professional standard, consulting senior staff for assistance, advice and support.
  • To work flexibly, assisting and supporting senior staff in providing Occupational Therapy to children/young people with complex needs in other specialised areas.
  • To carry out holistic and functional assessment of children/young people with a variety of conditions through gathering information, using clinical observations and assessment tools in conjunction with analysis skills.
