Paediatric Respiratory Consultant - Cystic Fibrosis / LTV

Job overview
The new post will help to meet an increased demand for respiratory services across the Trust and allow the continued development of a respiratory service and sub-specialised for children with Cystic Fibrosis / LTV requirements in the North West.
Applicants should have specialist accreditation in respiratory paediatrics, and preferably a higher post-graduate degree. The post-holder will be expected to contribute to the development of respiratory services for children at MFT.
The post holder will have a leading role within patients requiring long term ventilation who reside in a designated 6-bedded transitional care unit, HDU or PICU as appropriate. The Sleep service also provides a home PSG/TOSCA service supported by 2 respiratory physiologists.
Main duties of the job
The clinical aspects of the post will be overseen by Specialist Medicine , within the Division of Children’s Services, of Manchester University NHS Trust. The post-holder will work closely with all members of the consultant respiratory team.
The appointee will provide in and outpatient care for patients with complex respiratory disease/CF/LTV. The hot week consultant will be responsible for the day to day care of all inpatients admitted under the respiratory team. They will also be responsible for all new inpatient referrals to the service during the working week whether they be from within MFT or outside. The appointee will be expected to contribute to this on a 1:8 basis. It is expected that all consultants will support the hot week consultant in advising about the management of patients under their long term care.

Person specification
Qualifications and Training
Essential criteria
- MBChB or equivalent
- Postgraduate qualification or equivalent MRCPCH
- Completion of general professional training (paediatrics)
- Recent clinical experience in a tertiary paediatric respiratory service
- Good team-working skills
Desirable criteria
- Eligible for specialist registration in paediatric respiratory medicine. Should be on the specialist register or be within 6 months of obtaining CCT at interview.
- MD, PhD or other higher degree
Teaching and Audit
