Main duties of the job

This is an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic individual with clinical experience to join an established dynamic nursing team within pre-operative assessment. The prospective post holder will be a registered nurse who after appropriate training can clinically assess, plan, deliver and evaluate care to a timescale for patients prior to elective surgery

The vacancy and precise working hours will be discussed at interview.  The service is based within out-patients at North Manchester General hospital.

The main objective of the unit is to assess and optimises patients for a wide range of elective surgical specialties therefore the prospective post holder will require a broad knowledge preferably within surgical nursing, although medical knowledge would be an advantage, with at least 18 months experience as a band 5 staff nurse. Previous Pre-operative Assessment experience would be desired but not essential. You will be reliable, innovative, and flexible with good interpersonal/communication skills.

You will be expected to undertake clinical observations.   The prospective post holder will be required to provide a comprehensive nursing and medical assessment, ensuring all necessary results and reviews are collated prior to admission.

  • Teaching experience/ Qualifaction
  • Degree level 6 study Diploma

Knowledge

  • Knowledge of current nursing issues
  • Knowledge of clinical governance
  • IT/ Word Processing
Desirable criteria
  • Evidence of surgical nursing

Training & Experience

  • Experience of working on own and as part of a team
  • Ability to supervise and support junior staff
  • Evidence of teaching and assessing skills/ability
  • Awareness of clinical Audit
