Job overview

An exciting Band 7  Theatre Lead vacancy has become available  supporting Anaesthetics and Recovery services within Cardiothoracic Theatres at Wythenshawe Hospital. This position is for an enthusiastic  lead covering Cardiac, Thoracic, Transplant and Catheter Lab responsibility encompassing the on call out of hours services providing a 24/7 Emergency Service.

The post is for a motivated and driven Nurse / ODP to ensure the best quality of Anaesthetic care is provided to our very busy Cardiothoracic theatre department. CTT have expanded and now run 8 theatres Monday to Friday on a single site within MFT this has led to a large recruitment drive which is now complete. The successful applicant will oversee any further recruitment of anaesthetic staff members and have an oversight of any educational requirement for the team.

Please note that the applicants must have significant experience in Cardiac and/or Thoracic theatre and the demands of anaesthetics within these specialities.

Main duties of the job

You must be able to demonstrate your ability to motivate individuals, have proven organisational skills, effective communication, leadership skills and a strong commitment to high standards of patient care. This role will be clinically facing and may involve on-call cover as required. 

Applicants will be expected to be a qualified ODP or Anaesthetic Nurse and have 2 years minimum band 6 experience in anaesthetics to apply.

You will be working jointly with fellow Band 7 Theatre Scrub Leads in the both the Thoracic and Cardiac Theatres and you will be expected to cross cover working together as a team for all areas.

Managing the governance for the speciality of Anaesthetics is an essential part of the role including incidents and complaints. Maintaining and improving department Accreditation, IQP and CQC standards are included in the role.

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Qualification in O.D.P. or R.G.N.
  • Degree educated or working towards completion.
  • Teaching and assessing qualification.
  • Evidence of continuing professional development
  • Anaesthetic/Recovery qualification
Desirable criteria
  • Recognised management qualification
  • Leadership qualification

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Can demonstrate expertise in theatre nursing
  • A minimum of two years post registration experience two years of which must be at band 6
  • Can demonstrate experience of leading a team.
  • Evidence of producing teaching packages.
  • Can demonstrate the ability to organise and prioritise workload.
Desirable criteria
  • Experience of planning and implementing service Developments.
