Job overview
An exciting, unique opportunity has arisen to join the Colorectal and Stoma Care Team for a 8-month secondment (dependant on commencement date) in the role of ERAS+ Nurse / Stoma Care Nurse.
Working as part of the colorectal nursing time you will for stoma care patients be expected to provide pre-operative counselling for emergency and elective stoma care patients as well as working alongside ward colleagues to deliver stoma care education to all patients both established and new ostomists in the Northeast Sector of the NCA. As well as being involved in the referral of patients to community colleagues in the pre and post operative period.
I the role of ERAS+ nurse working alongside colleagues you will optimize all areas of the patient’s journey through surgery from diagnosis to full recovery compromising of the following key elements:
- Pre-habilitation
- Operating theatre – optimization occurring during surgery
- Critical Care and Surgical Wards – In-patient stay incorporating iCough UK
- Rehabilitation –after surgery including improving muscle strength living and eating well
Main duties of the job
Working alongside the ERAS+ and Stoma Care nursing teams within the Colorectal specialist nursing team you will be expected to provide all elements of care for patients with and established of new ostomists at the Oldham Care Organisation, Rochdale infirmary Fairfield General Hospital.
You will also be responsible working alongside colleagues to ensure that all elements of the ERAS+ pathway are delivered to patients to ensure an optimal surgical pathway for elective colorectal surgery patients

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

You will also be responsible working alongside colleagues to ensure that all elements of the ERAS+ pathway are delivered to patients to ensure an optimal surgical pathway for elective colorectal surgery patients
This vacancy is open to those who have a current NMC PIN to practice as an Registered Nurse or Midwife in the UK, or those who are currently enrolled on a course which means they expect to receive their full NMC PIN within the next 3 months. Please note an NMC PRN PIN is not a full NMC PIN and would not fulfil the essential criteria for this role.
The NCA can no longer accept applications from International Nurses and Midwives who are yet to complete all competencies needed to receive a full NMC PIN to practice in the UK as we have paused our OSCE programme indefinitely. Qualifications
Essential criteria
- 1st Level registered nurse
- Substantial experience in colorectal / stoma care nursing
- Degree Qualification in Nursing
Desirable criteria
- Stoma Care Nursing Qualification
- Stoma Siting Qualification
- Non-Medical Independent/Supplementary prescriber
Professional Registration
Essential criteria
- Valid NMC Registration
Knowledge, Training & Experience
Essential criteria
- Clear understanding of the stoma/colorectal service and pathway
- Demonstrate a knowledge of the speciality
- Demonstrate a commitment to further ongoing personal and professional development
- Ability to work both autonomously and as part of a team
- Ability to maintain accurate/concise records
Desirable criteria
- Sage and Thyme Communication Skills
- Evidence of post-graduate study related to stoma care
- Advanced Communication Skills Training
- Ability to site patient pre-operatively
- Evidence of participation in service development and implementation of change

You must have appropriate UK professional registration.
