An exciting opportunity has arisen at Northern Care Alliance NHS Foundation Trust for an ambitious and enthusiastic individual to join our dynamic finance team as a Management Accountant.

In this role, you will provide financial management support to the Families, Anaesthetics, Critical Care and Theatres (FACT) Clinical Group, ensuring robust financial practices are effectively embedded and providing financial support to strategic decision-making.

This role will provide opportunities to work directly with senior leadership teams across the organisation to support major programmes of change; examples include leading financial insights into the development of business cases, supporting the identification and progression of the Clinical Group’s Cost Improvement Programme, and working closely with clinical and operational teams to improve performance.

Applicants are required to be either a CCAB passed finalist or fully qualified. 

Main duties of the job

  • To ensure financial information is processed in accordance with established procedures, in order to provide monthly reports, through completion of own work and through liaison with other colleagues within the Team & the NCA.
  • The post holder will be required to communicate with colleagues, managers and staff within the NCA and external organisations, including other NHS providers commissioners & the local authority.
  • To investigate complex financial enquiries, providing assistance and advice as required. 
  • Responsible for producing relevant, timely and accurate reports to budget holders within the CSU; including identifying trends, the reasons for variances from forecasted income & expenditure & options to improve the position and providing reliable predictions for the year.  
  • Assisting with the assessment of the full financial implications of proposals and their affordability within the overall resources identified.

  • To supervise the day to day activities of the budget managers, budget officers and other junior members of staff within the Team as required by the Deputy Business Accountant.
  • To assist in the interpretation and/or implementation of new regulations and guidance where appropriate.
  • To undertake ad-hoc tasks from time to time as directed by the Deputy Business Accountant.

Essential criteria
  • 5 GCSEs including Maths & English
  • CCAB qualified or equivalent knowledge and experience at that level
Desirable criteria
  • Educated to Degree level or equivalent qualification / experience

  • Able to discuss complex and sensitive information with budget holders and financial colleagues, gain their respect and influence their decisions.
  • Able to understand complex corporate and financial issues and advise budget holders accordingly.
  • Able to contribute to planning the team’s workload, making adjustments to meet departmental requirements and internal and external targets.
  • Able to provide detailed advice and guidance to finance and non-finance managers

Analytical Skills

Essential criteria
  • Able to analyse highly complex financial issues and exercise judgement on financial decisions and risk
  • Able to present contentious information with input from various stakeholders & sources where opinions may differ

Other Skills

  • Able to contribute to the short and medium term strategy of the Division.
  • Able to design and format spreadsheets and reports for specific purposes
